Successful after Cotto was able to move like he could early on.

As explained in the other thread :

Ok....from what I saw on more than one occasion, Margarito was trying to cut off the ring but he was doing it in a mildly effective way. Cotto was helping him out often because Cotto eventually needs to plant his feet for a while in order to get his shots off..That's when Margarito was able to get to him...It was Cotto whom had to stop at some point that truly helped Margarito..On numerous occasions, Margarito let Cotto slip away because he was either not throwing enough when he had him cornered or giving Cotto a clear path to move out... That's exactly why his cornerman said in many early rounds to throw more punches when he's got Cotto in front of him !!

I have the fight and from what I saw I noticed whenever Marg was close in on Margarito he was eating some shots and I the same time landing some killer body shots. I think Margaritos style is similar to Chavez in the way the both waste their opponent round by round. Margarito in some cases did chase after Cotto because he had to it was a must he literaly had Cotto runing. However in the later rounds when Cottos stamina was giving in Margarito was cutting off the ring supervly he got him against the ropes, against the corner it was just nicely done.

Not only was he cutting off the ring but he was taking up Cottos space each round. He was more and more in Cottos face witch made Cotto fight more desperatly he could not get away from the constant pressure eventhough he was landing great shots on Margs he was taking a constant punishment no time off to rest he was fighting for his life for most of 11 rounds

He didnt get a chance to fight in the middle of the rin he was going from rope to rope

He was doing a great job as he obviously had Cotto running scared, burning far too much energy.

Would it work against Mayweather? Probably not as effectively, but then again Mayweather doesn't have the punch that Cotto does.

    But can anyone hurt Margarito?

I don't know, but Mayweather has the best chance of winning a UD and should be favored.

Either way, Margarito did an excellent job at cutting off the ring for Cotto. People who disagree are haters especially considering Margarito isn't the fastest fighter to ever step foot in the ring.

I dont understand why Cotto didnt throw more to the body since we all know Margarito has a granite chin

Because Margarito kept his hands low, leaving himself open to head blows.

It seemed at first that Marg was doing a poor job of cutting off the ring, more or less following him, and not using angles as effectively as he should. But as the fight wore on, he seemed to have tired Cotto to the point where his tactics seemed to have worked more to his advantage.

I originally thought Cotto's wearing down helped an otherwise mediocre effort at cutting off the ring. BUT as someone mentioned before, he actually did a pretty well job considering his abilities. And what can anyone really say? It worked.

i think cotto was cutting off his own ring by going against the ropes, which margo capitalized on beautifully....but margo aint good at cutting off the ring :nono
if you notice, cotto was frustrating margo when he would go in and out, margo was basically just walking him down with a plan to bruise him up and tire him out ....but if you watch a prime chavez, you will see what cutting off the ring really means :good

I never noted Margarito cutting of the ring, like what everyone else has said, he would stop moving and do Margo's job for him.

Good observations. It was a far from perfect performance for Margarito. He got alot of help from Cotto.
