A fighter who depends on mental toughness & heart, is a shell of himself once demoralized. The Psych-ops launched against Margarito are pretty much the most successful in boxing history, all it takes a well coordinated team with financial backing to sink somebody like Margo...coming of an ATG victory over Undefeated Miguel Cotto, interests met (not to be discussed :nono )
Green, Rancid, Ripe, Sour...that is up to the viewer, Whats very clear from the ring walk to bell is that Sergio Martinez looked ready for his title shot thinking Margo is another Mexican :smoke Iron chin, Excellent Inside game & Californian Resolve (baja) Undefeated Sergio Martinez, 2000 Undefeated Hercules Kyvelos, 2004 Undefeated Kermit Cintron, 2005 Undefeated Miguel Cotto, 2008
Margarito beat him so bad he momentarily thought going blonde would be a good idea.:yep (See the Acuna match)
He would not have. Margarito's superior aggression, toughness and gas tank would always make him a styles mismatch for Martinez. It would have looked different and Sergio would be competitive on the scorecards. But he would succumb to a late round TKO. Sergio's high movement style would expel too much energy and be a waste against Margarito's excellent ring cutting ability. Margarito with his chin has already shown that Sergio doesn't have enough power to deter him from walking in. Any version of Martinez suffers a KO loss to Margarito.
Martinez would have whooped Margarito in 2007-2009... If you box Margarito he's an ordinary fighter. If you fight him he looks like a badass. Martinez would have done the former!:deal
Oh, you mean the same exact stuff the much bigger Chavez Jr. brought, when he lost (actually got dominated) 11/12?
Chavez isn't anywhere near as disciplined or conditioned as Antonio Margarito. Tony has some of the greatest toughness, aggression and stamina that we've ever seen in the 147 pound division ever.
Could be, maybe, who knows. That would have been a good rematch that was stolen from us by that asshat Naz playing mind games with Margo that went way too far.
Sure he's tough but it's no secret he struggled against movers and superb counter punchers.. Margarito really is an average fighter.
