According to Maxboxing, Arum wants to match Margarito with the winner of the Judah-Clottely fight. If Margarito wins that fight, should he be 2008's fighter of the year? I say yes. Thoughts?
agreed ... if Margarito fights and beats Williams in a rematch then he would then be my fighter of the year this year and would be considered the recognized/ring magazine welterweight champion. But if he fought Clottey for the strap that he vacated (not stripped of) that wouldn't make much sense. Add to that he won't beat Cotto, Clottey, or Williams in a rematch --
Funny thing is that in a Latin Sports Awards show, Cotto was the fighter of the year a few days prior to this saturdays fight lol.
If he beats the winner of Mosley-Judah or Williams this year he'd have the most impressive win streak of all the welters since Cotto did his thing last year. Cintron (TKO) Cotto (TKO) and then this last fight. One helluva year!
The last thing I wanted to do was make this a hate thread. With that said, Margarito just beat a top 5 P4P fighter. Mayweather has never done that. DLH and Judah were not top 10 guys when he fought them. Hatton was, but all his work was at 140, and Corrales was not top 10 when they fought back in 2001. You can check the records and see that I am correct on this. So now, please stop hating on Margarito. Who else would you nominate as FOTY?
