I agree with you a little bit here, yes Cotto has been staggerd in the Judah fight, the Corley fight and the Torres fight, no doubt. However Cintron needs room to punch he needs to keep you at the end of his shots to do damage, Margarito knew this and smoothered his shots by keeping the fight close. Yes Margarito does have a chin but that isnt the only place to hurt a fighter, he can be hurt to the body and has been before, he has also been wobbled to the temple in fights, so its not like the chin alone is the only spot to get Margarito. it basicly boils down to who makes the fight their fight, and who ever does this early IMO will win the fight, who ever steps in and takes control of the fight from the start will finish as the winner.
Don't get me wrong, I expect Cotto to win the fight.. but if I knew in advance that there was a knock out, I'd put my money on it being Margarito. Maybe if it was TKO/KO in the championship rounds, it may be Cotto knocking the stuffing out of Margarito with those body shots.
Margarito is going to gun for the Kayo its his first BIG fight, with a legit title holder and a household name beleive he is going to take full advantage of this opportunity. but it can back fire if he thinks it will be easy, if he puts the right kind of pressure on Cotto he will win, but if he allows Cotto to box when Cotto wants to and slug when Cotto wants to he will have fewer and fewer shots of getting it done. and if Cotto gets inside and gets going to that body its going to be a nightmare for Margarito, he will attempt the right uppercut bombs that he has, but that left hook to the body sooner or later is going to make Margarito chose, either keep getting hurt there and stick with the right uppercut or block that **** and try something else, it all depends on who takes command in there first.
Margarito tucks his elbows well when attacking inside though Bazooka. From what I can tell it's gonna be hard on Cotto to sneak the bodyshot in when Margarito keeps his elbows tight, even when throwing an uppercut. How is your man in the gym dealing with Margarito's left hook bodyshot off the lead right?
I just wonder if Margarito's elbows will hold up against the power and relentless body attack Cotto will try to employ in this fight.
I don't think it'll be a problem. The Quintana fight stands out but really if you look at Quintana he's a guy who fights out of a crouch with both hands out. That means whenever Cotto gets inside Quintana's elbows are not tight to his body. Those elbows hanging out there are no help when Cotto sneaks a left hook inside once he's right on top of Quintana. This is why Cotto was landing so well against Quintana. Normally a Cotto opponent makes it beyond the midway point. He's not a huge puncher. If he does stop someone at the top level it's due to accumulation. And look who he has stopped. Judah, Quintana, Torres, etc. All of these guys at least now are seen as having vunerabilities. They don't take the kind of punishment Margarito can absorb. Truly the only guys on Cotto's resume with Margarito's durability are Shane Mosley and LoveMore Ndou (circa 2004). Cotto has some power but it's all accumulation. He's going to have to land a lot and land clean all night to even think about stopping Margarito late. That also means he's gonna have to make himself available and I don't think he'll do that. I think he'll fight like he fought Mosley off the backfoot. Mainly scoring blows and then moving.
Duran was 32 when that fought I have the fight on tape. His birthday was the following day his 33rd birthday. I dont give a fuk what weight he was fighting at the guy was in his prime...The backside of his prime but his prime none the less.
marg recently said this fight was going to be easy whether cotto decided to box or fight. I certainly hope he is proven wrong in a big way
