How well do you see Cotto taking Margarito's punches? Neither one of these guys have very good defense.
This is just something that was put out there to hype up the fight. We all know how it is in every fight. I dont know if Margo really say that, but there is always **** talking to promo fights.
If they go toe to toe, i think Margo will have the edge for the win. If Cotto fights and boxes, it will go to Cotto.
That is all Margo knows how to do is bulldoze. He isnt going to try and outbox Cotto, so what eles do you cats expect him to do. If Cotto stands in front of Margo and trades shots he will be in trouble. Cotto isnt the strongest chinned guy out there and Margo has a good chin...Even though its a bit over rated since he really has never fought a good fighter that has a big punch. I expect Cotto to win this fight fairly easy, if he fights smart and dont trade with Margo.
Now I'll be the first to admit that Cotto isn't Wilfred Benitez, Pernell Whitaker, or even a Floyd Mayweather Jr on the defensive side of things (I mean who is really when you think about it), but compared to Margarito....He might as well be. Cotto's defense is his offense.....Giving different angles, changing up speeds with his punches, Going in out with his combinations staying on his toes showing movement, and switching up styles (SP to Orthodox and vise versa)....These things confuse and throw off his opposition in the ring, and makes them hesitant with their own offensive output, and Cotto plays of that. His adaptability is why I enjoy Cotto as a fighter. Also Cotto does keep a high text book guard when he does let loose say a left hook, or combination. So he does have good defensive fundamentals...He's just not what you would call a defensive wizard....His strengths lie in other areas that's all. Now how is Cotto's chin going to react during those moments in the fight when Cotto and Margarito do go toe, toe in the pocket? Which I do see happening at some point come fight night. I think he'll react just like he did during his recent and past fights at 147 with Zab, Mosley, Q, etc....Yes he will get hit (it happens in boxing), but I don't see a TKO in Cotto's future by any means. Outside of a lucky punch which is possible in all fights. My thing is Margarito isn't a KO artist and never will be one. His punches certainly don't come as fast or as hard as Zab or Mosley in my opinion. I was more worried leading up to those fights. Because of their combination of speed and knock out power, but Margarito is a slower accumulative puncher. He will overwhelm you and grind you out round by round. If Cotto's is going to lose (I don't think so) it'll be because of stamina and exhaustion issues. Caused by Margarito's constant grinding, and not from a knock out punch. The punches that both Zab, and Mosley landed in both their respective fights. In opinion would've put down and knocked out lesser chinned fighters, and Cotto ate them well. Hey in the end I could be wrong. After all this is boxing (Holt vs Torres anyone), but in about 3 weeks we'll soon find out and it'll sure as hell be fun watching the outcome on the 26th.
I don't put too much stock into those words. Why? Because I think it was only put out there to promote the fight. If Arum knows that this fight is already huge with the hardcore fan, he knows Margarito and Cotto will have to talk a little trash to get the casual fan interested. However, unlike in other high-profile fights, I believe this one may live up to its hype. This is one fight the casual fan should watch because it should be good whether it lasts four rounds or twelve.
I wasn't aware of the Hatton situation, but chin or no chin. Pinto tried to be Mr Macho, and ended up on his ass. The same with Sosa if you'd like another example of a tall come forward fighter. That has been in the ring with Cotto. Also take into account this was at 140. Where Cotto wasn't at his physical best and struggled to make weight. The 147 version of Cotto is a whole other beast in the ring. The funny thing here is that every fighter has said or has been quoted at one point or the another when facing Cotto. That they were going to knock Cotto out because of his suspect chin. Each time Cotto has proven them wrong, and shown that fighting toe, toe against him. Isn't really the best stratigic plan of attack. I respect Margarito's determination in the ring, and his solid beard, but his face is suspect to cuts, and he swells easily. Those two things right there are a bad combination when fighting Cotto.
KO's happen from exhaustion and stamina problems. Quite a contradictory statement you provided there. :huh
That was my fault actually...Thanks for pointing that out... I'll have to correct that in my post and just leave TKO. Since I don't think Maragrito has one punch knock out power. Which is pretty much my point. With the whole Cotto has a weak chin theory.
Margo isnt a big time one punch power fighter by any means, but I think that its a mistake to think that he doesnt have enough power to put Cotto to sleep. We have all seen lesser bangers then Margo put Cotto on ***** street, if that happens vs Margo it will be all over.Margo isnt going to let Cotto off the hook the way that Shane "One shot at a time" Mosley did, or the way that Corley did. He isnt going to get all wild and crazy the way that Torres did. Or he want be to scared to go for the kill the way that Judah was. IT WILL BE OVER. However I dont think that it will happen, I think that the best fight to gauge this fight will be Cottos fight with N'dou. I think that it will be a carbon copy of that fight with Cotto winning something like 116-112. I just hope that it lives up to the hype alittle bit. But I have a feeling that some will be dissapointed in the fight, I dont see it as the barnburner that most see.
Great fighters get whacked in less then four rounds too. Duran was whacked in two in his prime(age 32).
Yep, you called it. Well said. Especially the bit about Mosley. There was a moment where Shane exploded with an overhand right in the third round and completely folded Cotto over stunning him, and all Mosley did was back up a few feet with a smug expression on his face and let Cotto recover. Now, if that was Margarito... If that was Margarito following with a series of uppercuts and hooks... Well, like you said - that **** would have been over. When Cotto gets caught with something good he freezes dead in his tracks. Margarito doesn't know how not to jump all over an opponent when he gets them in trouble. This will be an epic disaster for Cotto.
