He just came off of a grueling top notch fight. If he had been coming off of a string of names like DeMarcus Corley, Henry Bruseles, Arturo Gatti and Sharmba Mitchell then yes, I'd be pissed.
Thanks. I think it would be more of an action fight. But Oscar is a dude with size and he's fought and beat bigger opponents than Margo. And he's also faced some opponents with lots of power. He's faced better opposition before. He's not the same Oscar he used to be. But Margo is so one dimensional and Oscar is a smart fighter and he could put the perfect strategy together to beat Margarito. And ppl keep saying he's shot, but he looked good against PBF and did a better job than anyone expected. Steve Forbes doesnt count. So we really havent seen him in a year and some months, the question is within that year and some months how much has DLH lost. Its hard to determine how much he's lost in between the PBF fight and now. Thats what would really determine my decision. But if I had to bet with my money, and with Mayweather Sr. in the corner, I pick Oscar in 12.
Fair enough, but you did see how Oscar got winded in the Floyd fight, right? Margo hits alot harder than Floyd and throws at a higher pace. Another thing margo looks one dimentional but he works you by hitting you from different angles and tageting different spots. he's alot smarter than what ppl give him credit for. Oscar lacks the body assult, Margo has a killer Body Attack that will wear Oscar down. Oscars killer jab (which we still see some of) will look nice in the first few rounds like Cottos did, but it will slow down allowing Margo to capitalize. i think Cotto has better feet than Oscar and still was getting nailed with hard body shots and uppers. But in all honesty i doubt the fight will take place. And eventually Margo will take on Paul Williams, might not be his next fight, but they'll fight again.
I doubt the fight takes place too. Oscar wont retire with his last fight being a loss. He wants his last fight to be a fight where he puts on a pretty good perrformance for his fans and he wins. And I dont think Cotto has good footwork, I think DLH has better footwork. I think DLH can take shots a little better than Cotto because he's used to being hit by guys who are as stong and big as Margo. And I think he has better defense and he could block alot of Margo's shots. Oscar wouldn't even let the fight play out how Cotto and Margo's encounter. Oscar would use the ring alot more. Oscar is faster than AM and I think Oscar would win this fight on points. And like I said, with Mayweather Sr. in his corner, I pick Oscar on points.
Cool... to bad we might not get to see how this scenario would play out. interesting that you don't think Cotto has better Feet than Oscar, this would make for a good poll :hey
He's faster with his feet, but he doesnt use his feet to their full potential like he can/should. Oscar uses his feet to their full potential. Thats why I say Oscar has better footwork. And no we wont see this fight cause Oscar wants to go out on top. But I cant knock Margo for wanting to make alot of money. You got guys like Wlad making 12 mil for fighting bums & DLH making who knows how much for sparring with Forbes on tv. Hell yeah he has every right to want to make lots of money. PBF did it, DLH did it, and now he's the guy at the top, he deserves it.
After what Williams did to him, the only way they don't have unfinished business is if you take the position that Williams already finished it. They both have straps in the division, but their history makes Williams the man. Margarito fought a great fight against Cotto, but that doesn't change facts. Margo-Williams is not ancient history relegated irelevant by new circumstances...on the contrary, it's very recent history, providing needed perspective to the rapidly clouding WW picture. If Margorito wishes to court the lucrative fanbase of the perpetually retiring Oscar De La Hoya, he better man up and take care of his Williams defeat. The fansbase he is courting appreciates fighters who avenge their losses, hence the countless Mexican rematches and trilogies. I'd still respect Margo as a fighter if he doesn't fight Williams, but not as the champion.
He always has the edge over Margo cause he beat Margo with no excuses. Everyone says "next time he wont start so slow, if he wouldn't have started slow", well he started slow against Cotto, so that lets me know that will never change about him.
Not too slow brother, that 2nd round was more up tempo for a typical "margo early round" in the body shots that Margo got busy with. Cotto received a busted nose and a cut over his left eye after that round. I would say Margo was a little more busier compared to his performance against Williams.
Yeah, but thats only one round out of the first 6. The majority of the first half of the fight, he was in cruise mode. He hasnt learned and he'll never learn that cruise mode will cruise a loss your way. He's the tyoe that could never play football or basketball.
make another option in the poll which states that "boxing is a biz and the fighter will chase the big money fights". are there any boxers who intentionally "ducked" the big money fight just to fight someone for a lower pay? none, i guess.
i don't think margo was in a cruise mode during his fight with cotto. even margo acknowledged that he usually starts slow and that's why he needs to change his tactic. margo was much more active in his last fight but it just happened that he was fighting cotto, who boxed better than him and hence margo still looked like someone who is not trying to take the early rounds. but the strategy was to tire cotto and win by having the superior stamina. that strategy worked and now he can look forward to a better payday ahead of him.
and margo basically uses the same strategy on every opponent. tire them down in the first 6 rounds, and then go for the kill. that aint always gonna work(williams fight). yeah, that strategy worked and now that he beat the number 1 dude in the division, he will get those big paydays he deserves. he deserves to get more money.
