"Once I felt Cotto's first punch, I knew it, that was it, I was going to win the fight. Cotto's punch wasn't as hard or as strong as I thought it would be. I'd been in against fighters who hit much harder than Cotto. Once we got into an exchange, in that second round, I knew it was just a matter of time before I caught up with and hurt him."

I believe him. Sometimes it just comes to fighters just like that. Hagler said the same about Hearns, as Sugar Leonard did.

Cintron can only punch when he has a target to hit. Matthysse probably thinks Cintron can punch, I bet AM dosn't think so lol...

Cotto has to hit hard. Mosely's right side of his body looked swollen after the fight. Mallignagi and Judah looked really beat up. Cotto doesn't have one punch KO power, but he has to hit hard. I don't know if guys his weight can hit MUCH harder than Cotto hits, like what Margarito said.

    It's probably true.

Look at the difference in body frames.

And Margarito has fought good fighters above his optimum, comfortable weight class.

He has a pretty good chin but aint mentally tough to beat a guy like Margarito.

Not gonna disagree with Margartio but this probably says more about his toughness than Cotto's lack of punch!

Some of those combinations Cotto landed would have KO'd lesser men!

Cotto has to work the body alot to do his damage though. That's the key to his success, and the key to his results. After dozens of body shots he softens them up. It's his dedication to that sensitive area that helps him work his magic, IMO. Cotto doesn't seem to cause much effect unless he does alot of accumulation work. Rocky Martinez was having some trouble in his last fight, and did you see the way he started going to the body over and over? His opponent started getting battered up of that. Fighters neglect the body to a criminal extent. I'm surprised more fighters haven't followed Cotto's lead. He's really smart about the body attack. 20 consecutive hard shots to the body is murderous. It pays massive dividends.

Well, Margarito didnt exactly say that Cotto hits like a girl.

He just said that he has been hit harder by other fighters.

There are just some fighters who have real heavy hands and hit like a sledgehammer.

Cotto's speed and power combos are better than above average, but he wears you down, more than he KO's you with one shot in the early rounds.

This what I found interesting about Margarito's comments though - when was the last time Cotto KO'd somebody to the head? How many times has Cotto KO'd people on headshots period? Cotto put all sorts of leather on glass chinned, weak bodied Judah, and Zab didn't go down until extremely late in the fight - and that was after a massive, massive accumulation of punishment.
