Well, it seems as if Margarito is already factoring his steel jaw into the equation. Note how Margarito states that he's faced fighters who hit "MUCH" harder. It seems he's saying that Cotto, clearly, isn't that big of a puncher in his view. I'll assume he's just being honest, and not disrespectful.

I just rewatched the fight and I too noticed this in Round 2. Live, it seemed like a Cotto masterclass for the first 4 rounds, but upon rewatching, round two was all Margarito and it seems pretty obvious Cotto isnt gonna make it.

Do we know what that statement was in response to? What type of a question? Possibly he is tired of everyone asking him if he was hurt during the fight, especially since he was swollen up after and took many many shots. Either way, typically, Antonio isn't disrespectful towards other fighters.

Another thing to bring up, also, since people are mentioning he should have gone to the body and that his body attack is his best weapon. I agree. However, after the second round, or first (If I recall well), his corner specifically told him to be careful of going to the body, to be careful "with his elbows", something to that extent. Antonio tucks his elbows in well and typically doesn't give many opportunities to get banged up to the body. He proved this against Joshua Clottey, who landed many blows to Margarito's head, but never really landed good to the body, despite him trying. Perhaps there is a fear among boxers/trainers of hurting ones' hands on elbows? Is it possible they suspected Joshua Clottey hurt his hand on Margarito's elbow instead of his head??

Well to be fair Cotto was in backwards motion from round one onward. Cotto's power is only there when he's moving forward attacking the body. That's why you saw such a discrepancy between the Quintana/Judah fights and the Mosley/Margarito fights. Judah is also probably telling the truth that he fought harder punchers (like Tszyu and Millett) but he's bullshitting if he says Cotto doesn't have power. He wouldn't have been on his back late in the fight if Cotto didn't have power.

For Margarito I'd say Daniel Santos, Danny Perez, Kermit Cintron and Paul Williams are all bigger hitters than Cotto. Punch for punch anyways.

Although if the rematch happens you have to concede that Cotto can do more damage by moving forward. He will be more vunerable sure, but he may also leave a bigger welt. I'd still pick Margarito by knockout though.

In the article it just seemed to be a retelling of events from Margarito. I agree with yourself and warrior85 that the respect is there. Also, very interesting second paragraph. ^ That's very insightful, exploration worthy stuff.

yea good call,i think if cotto woulda looked for the left hook to the body he'd have been open to tony's left uppercut thru the middle.

I can see what you're saying, but to me Judah went down from collective damage, mostly to the body. Judah literally flopped when he hit the canvas in the 11th. Cotto landed a flush right hand right on Judah's chin at some point in that fight, and it buckled Judah, but only slightly. Carlos Baldomir, on the other hand, almost had Judah out with one solitary right hand.. Some guy named Ryan Davis - the same thing, rocked Judah into full on chicken dance boogie mode... Cotto barely even made a ripple by comparison. Overall, I'm inclined to believe that Cotto really doesn't have that much power based on the hard evidence.
