I see you are from Oakland, most of the kids you are are teaching probably have parents who grew up in the same circumstances or might not have any parents at all. Not saying it's right, but how can you blame kids or parents when they haven't been taught respect in the first place. There are no standards at home, but there standards for a classroom.

Margarito didn't exactly grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth or college degree. He also isn't in an industry known for respect. Boxing fans and opponents are probably calling him an ******* everyday.

doesn't take a college education to set a good example and be a role model for kids. but your right, i have to teach more than just music in school. manners, respecting others, and the culture i want in my class is a a part of the lesson too.
