As Kellerman correctly pointed out (and Max did a pretty good job last night, as did Manny; Lampley sucked), Margo 'broke' Cotto. Not only did he break him mentally, he broke him physically. Sometimes after a beating like this a fighter's chin is never the same. Ask Fernando Vargas after he got pummeled by Tito Trinidad. Regardless of Cotto's possibly being 'ruined,' he will never have the resistance he once did when fighting Margo the first time if the two meet again. He knows that no matter what he does he cannot hurt Margo, and he knows that Margo can and will hunt him down and blast him out. If the two fight again, Cotto will once again be KO'd, only this time it will happen sooner. Think Chavez-Taylor II or Cintron-Margarito II. Once you beat a guy the way Margarito beat Cotto, that guy will never fight you as hard or with as much resistance as he did the first time. This is doubly true for a guy who was previously undefeated. Margarito owns Cotto. They both know it, too. Cotto fought as well and as hard as he possibly could, and he could have been knocked out in the 7th but did his best to gut it out until his body and his mind gave out and he "No Mas"d in the 11th. For the Cotto fans, your guy needs to be rebuilt and to be kept as far away as possible from Tony. The next bout with Margarito is likely to be a career-ender for Miguel Cotto.
AGAIN, this was a ****ing competitive fight. Jesus This was no 'beatdown', I'm starting to wonder if anyone even watched the fight.
Wrong. Margo won the last 4 rounds of the fight (5 if you count the 11th), nearly had Cotto gone in the 7th and has now brutally knocked out Cotto and punctured his psyche a la Calzaghe and Lacy. Again, Chavez-Taylor II or Cintron-Margo II. Once you break a guy like the way Cotto was broken, he will never last as long the second time around when you rematch him. Cotto will never beat Margo, could never beat Margarito. The styles are all wrong, and now Margo, additionally, has a deed to Cotto's soul.
Anything could happend... Cotto fought bravely and could get a decision over Margarito if a rematch is to happend. Cotto could have done a few things differently, thats why you learn from defeats like these. People should appreacite a young man like Cotto, whos only been frighting as a pro for 7 years. Never duck anyone and even fought a man that some don't want to face. Not only that but in his backyard. Appreciate fighters like these, cotto could've easily box more than he was. But decided to give the fans a great fight as well by going at it with Margarito at times.
It all depends, who the **** knows how well Cotto will bounce back? You cant rely on other fights to justify your reasons, because they contain different fighters, and none are the same. Thats not to say that margo doesnt have cottos number, just think its a bit premature to suggest cotto will never be the same again
i had margo winnin 6-4. if there was a re-match i think cotto would win though, he would have to change his game plan but i think he could do it.
thats what makes it so bad for me cotto hit margo with the works.. clean, short and powerful shot and never hut him at all. cotto looked great to me but was ineffective in the long run i thought that cotto was goin to unify the divison i hope that he comes back stronger than ever but stay away from margo for awhile........
I would love for you to find me any link where cotto or his team turn down a fight against mayweather. I'll be here the whole day and I would bet you wouldn't be able to prove your statement. Talking about being falseatsch
Thanks, heresy. cjgloves, my scoring was exactly as yours, AM by 2 rounds going into the 11th (which would have been a 10-7 round if Cotto lasted, putting AM up by 5 points on two judges' cards and up by 3 on the other scorecard): 01 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 02 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 03 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 04 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 05 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 06 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 07 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 08 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 09 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 10 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] 11 -- This content is protected [ This content is protected ] * Margo owned the second half of the fight and Cotto was hanging on for dear life from the 7th on. In the rematch, it would be worse. Now Cotto knows he can't hurt Margo, and he knows Margo can knock him the F out. Margo knows it, too, and would hunt Cotto down and destroy Cotto, again, just faster. Remember, Cotto quit. That is a gigantic factor here. He didn't want any more, which is worse than even what happened to Taylor in the first Chavez fight. Once you give up against a guy, it's much easier to give up the second time around. That is part of what a guy who gets his first loss has to deal with, particularly when you lose in such devastating fashion and when you rematch the guy who put the beatdown on you.
Exactly, it's really hard to ask Cotto to fight any better than he did. He landed a very big percentage of his punches, and any other fighter would have wilted after taking all those punches, but Margarito was basically unaffected by those shots. You can't expect Cotto to fight any better, and after taking all that punishment from Margo, it's pretty likely that he wouldn't be able to match his performance last night, so I'd pick Margo in 6 or 7 rounds in a rematch.
I agree with the thread starter Cotto cannot hurt margo and he knows it now Margo is relentless and he knows he can bust up cotto The end of the day, i cannot see a way cotto can keep margo off him for 12 rounds :huh
All Cotto has to do is avoid the uppercut and work on his stamia. He was winning to me until the two knockdown. It was a very competative fight., but Cotto got tired which we all knew. But Margo has chin point blank period
How did you have him winning it was close i had margo by a round but cotto was hurt from the 7th onwards and went into his shell a bit :huh No one seems to be mentioning margos body shots, they took the fight out of cotto more then anything. All this bs about cotto having a bad chin can be dispelled he took some masive shots all through the fight, and was exaghested by the time of the stoppage :smoke
