I find that Margarito's Ring rating is low. There's an explanation for it, but if you weigh 2008 more than 2007... well Tony certainly deserves to be #2 after Cotto.
De La Hoya to face the Cotto-Margarito winner? In the (in)famous "Ellerbe interview" (the legendary "Ellerbe interview" ) Floyd Sr. states that DLH vs. the Cotto-Margarito winner is a possibility for later this year... and since all the other possibilities are unlikely to happen (Sr. talked about Hatton and Winky but Hatton is going to fight Malignaggi and Pac and Winky is a fight Sr. don't want to take), if you don't consider Oscar-Mora as a big fight (which is definitely not), the ONLY scenario for the big Fall Oscar De La Hoya fight is the match-up vs. the Cotto-Margarito winner, and that's a fight boxing fans would gladly accept... What do you think of the chances of this fight after July 26? I'd say: there's 60% chance it's gonna happen! (September is unlikely though... October-November is the reality).
The fan's trailer is much better. :yep Cotto to put an end to the Margarito hype train once and for all.
At this juncture about 26 days away from the main event, there are four likely possibilities as to the result of the fight. A draw could happen but I doubt that this will be the case. From my understanding there is no rematch clause in the contract so I wonder how such a development can be remedied. However, both Cotto and Margarito can definitely KO the other. But if it goes to the scorecards after 12 rounds, I believe that as champion, Cotto will be favored and he will be given the UD. That's my opinion. What does everyone else think?
I personally just can't see how Margarito can win. Cotto is a clever, accurate boxer-puncher, he's powerful especially to the body so he can hurt Margarito, who's been rocked before by Clottey and Santos. I'm confident he would be able to box comfortably enough off the back foot and take a points win, however I expect him to go toe-to-toe with Margo, where I'm still confident he can win even on the inside or at mid-range because I feel he's quicker to the punch and a combination and power, speed and accuracy will ensure he lands more often than Margarito. I know Margarito applies constant pressure but I think if Cotto continues to press effective and lands some big shots to the body he can hurt Margarito and even force him to back up.
I agree with you here. I just don't know if the toe-to-toe approach will work out ideally as you say. I do believe that Cotto has the smarts and skills to win but he should not let the Puerto Rican-Mexican rivalry get to him too much because if it does, he can well be KO'd for playing Margarito's game of slugging it out. Cotto needs a mixture of boxing and brawling.
picked Margarito...I am more convinced that Margo can take Cotto's power more than the other. Im cheering for cotto tho..
Cotto is in superb condition and according to the news the weight is coming down very nicely. Maybe for the first time he won't feel the after effects of serious dehydration? Anyways, here's the official poster This content is protected
If or when Margarito does indeed win it's going to turn him into 1,000,000 times the hype he ever was because of this POV. Cotto narrowly decisioned a sloppy, old, crude looking Mosley and you can't see him losing to a pressure fighter like Margarito who has significant power? Did you see the Mosley fight? Things only got good for Mosley when he decided to rush Cotto and fight in a aggressive brawling style. Cotto landed some good counter shots, but he lost the rounds and was hurt (according to Cotto himself) during those exchanges.
I definitely see both POVs. However, Cotto has yet to be defeated and I think that is one big X factor coming into this bout. Plus, Cotto is younger and in his prime; I just want to know if he can take it to another level. If he does, I can only say that Margarito brought the best out of Cotto in the wake of such a PPV event.
