While Cotto is training his heart out for this fight, the Mexican Warrior Margarito is not taking this fight lightly either, he states: "This is the most important fight of my career"

"This is the biggest fight for me, I am anxious to get in that ring" Margarito

Margarito who recently knocked out Kermit Cintron has had a solid career, but not the big fights, he has been avoided and therefore the million dollar pay days have avoided him as well.

"It was that way but now I am fighting Cotto, I will win and become a Mexican boxing idol" Margarito

"I may not have the technical abilities that Cotto has, but I do have the strengh and intelligence to win. I do not know what Cotto's gameplan will be but I am focused on his weaknesses, I know what I must do to win. I will pressure him like never before, if he Comes to box, I will win rounds with my height and pressure" Stated Margarito

Margarito was asked why does he feel that he can beat Cotto when two champions in Zab and Mosley failed?

"The difference is my hear, my heart is bigger than Mosley and Zabs put together. I have more power and I throw many more punches than both of them put together. I had a very bad night versus Paul Williams but I am the best welterweight in the world, just wait until July 26th, you will see"

Wow.... Margarito is ready, Cotto is ready............ Tell all your friends about it! The Battle will happen on July 26th!

That fight isn't even worth watching, it should be Santos vs Cotto.

On paper Santos got the victory. However if you saw the fight you'd know how silly it would be to say Santos is better than Margarito.

Margo wants to fight tall, but has never fought a pro bout using his height advantage. He's going to all of a sudden learn to fight tall? He's going to get punished for it if he tries, fighting tall is far different than fighting inside.

It wasn't working that great for him in the early rounds, but Margarito did fight tall behind a jab against Lujan. Margarito was so erect in fact, that Zab Judah even criticised him for it as the guest commentator. He said Margarito should get low and that he was too upright. Overall Margarito was pretty effective in that fight on the outside using his height.

Guess we will see. My prediction, if Margo fights tall, Cotto just picks him appart with pressure. If Margo uses pressure himself, Cotto will box. Margo's tall fighting ability is non-existant, or at stages of infancy compared to his ability to fight inside. His problem, and his strength is that he is such a raw and tough guy. His inside game is okay at best, but its nowhere near the level of his toughness and endurance. Lets face it, Margarito is a fighter who is going in against a guy who is well on his way to being considered a master boxer puncher. Cotto is years and years ahead of Margarito skillwise. In boxing, skills coupled with natural ability win the day. I feel Margo deffinately is the tougher, more durable guy of the two, but Cotto is far more refined, cerebral fighter. Its going to be painful to watch.

Damn, I think Cotto is pretty good offensively, but I can't quite rate him at approaching a master level or being years ahead of anyone persay. Cotto simply hasn't turned in the kind of performance, ever, that would allow me to consider him at that level. What do you feel he's shown you to consider him so highly?

For me it was a combination of two outings, but in opposite order than they came. The first time I started to consider him being on the level, or approaching the boxer puncher mastery level was his actually thinking about his match with Mosely. At first, I thought that late in the fight, when he started fighting defensively that he was just being cowardly. But upon thinking about it a little more, I've come to realize that Cotto understands his weaknesses and strengths, and that all those times I have seen him rocked and look just a little better than ordinary have made him, instead of breaking him.. I believe that in boxing, there is a learning curve where you either addapt to what you have and continue to improve, or you just stop progressing as a fighter. I think one of the most obvious examples of this was watching MAB mature from someone who was just a hard nosed fighter, into someone who started putting on boxing clinics, mixing his aggressiveness with ring intelligence and just outright guile sometimes. He displayed abosolute brilliance in the ring after he passed his physical prime, and was a far better overall fighter after his phisical prime. Some fighters, like Shane Mosely and Felix Trinidad are a bit one dimensional, but present a dimension that is hard to overcome, even if you are highly skilled. Shane Mosely and Felix Trinidad are two extreme offensive forces, Mosely presents a lot of speed, good power and a very high level of durability. To the point that I don't feel many fighters in history could go head to head with a prime Mosely and just trade with him and come out on top. He is the type of fighter who can back up his stubbourn single style by comming back with heavy shots after he gets tagged himself. We watched his painful losses to wright, he seemed helpless in the ring, he never addapted to Winky and was helpless against his style, but he was so stubbourn he kept trying to return punches every time he got tagged. The thing about Cotto is he was able to play Mosely's game of trading and keep up, get the better of Mosely. Towards the end of the fight, he addapted a style that suited his style, that was defensive and absolutely dominant over anything Mosely had to offer. Now, why he changed up his gameplan can be interpreted many ways. I personally think he, or his corner were afraid Mosely would get a lucky shot in, and finish Cotto, Mosely is a tremendious finisher. But regardless of the reason he changed styles, he showed something very different than what I'm used to seeing in him.. Compare this to his prior fight with Judah. He only made minor adjustments while fighting Judah. He put on a very dominant performance, combo of boxing performance and punching performance against someone who should be considered a fast and somewhat powerful southpaw. Lets be honest, the fight was extremely dominant in Cotto's favor, and this performance really shows his BASE style. A guy who can sit on body punches and make opponents go defensive.. You see, he was never able to make Mosely go Defensive, so he went defensive himself and showed he isn't a one dimensional fighter. But a guy who can switch it up and make huge style adjustments.. This shows high intelligence imo and is one of the most important aspects of what it means to be a boxer puncher.
