Margarito not fighting again till '09

I totaly agree..:good he needs to fight before the year is out..

 

Looks like he'll be fighting Mosley in January next year.

 

or the winner of that fight.. maybe so.

 

This is a smart move. He just won that title. No need to risk it against a guy like Clottey at this time. He took some wicked shots against Cotto. I doubt he wants to get in there with Clottey only 4 months later. Margo's head swelled up like a beach ball after the first Clottey fight, and Clottey fought most of that fight with an injured hand. He's doing the right thing. Take the rest of the year off, and come back strong against a mando or Mosely. He can then fight Cotto again next June.

 

It was certainly the right decision coming off a big win and PPV event over Cotto because fighting some unknown boxer like Clottey would have really hurt his PPV numbers. That type of match may not garner even 300K buys.

Fighting a big name like Mosley or Mayorga would keep his momentum and PPV numbers up and get him more recognition.

Maybe Cotto should face Clottey and take his belt. Clottey is neither a big puncher nor a very active fighter in general so should be a good comeback match plus he gets a belt as well.

 

He could fight Williams and take that 4 million dollar pay day he was offered. That could be made after Williams wins his Middleweight fight in a few weeks.

 

yeah I agree..if he isnt fighting til 09...then fight Williams next.

Damnit. if only Williams offered the re match right after the first fight..this would be water under the bridge..

 

no it wouldnt because margarito needed to beat a proven world class fighter to get his rep points.

williams (and i'm a great fan of his) hasn't earned that right just like margarito didn't before the cotto win.

 

he dont deserve no break **** that you same people come at williams for not being active but margo needs to take break **** that he needs to fight he won a big fight now hes going soft DONT DISSAPOINT US MARGO PLEASE

I'm pissed but he does deserve a break. He won two belts this year and does deserve some time off.

 

I'm pretty pissed about this but he has fought the best of the divsion in the last fights so....can't wait to see him back
