Ill start off by saying watching the fight the first of the second time doesnt really allow you to really appreciate the level of boxing skill on display. Everything was in this fight, and showed pacquiao as the complete fighter. He was a bobbing, weaving, feinting wrecking machine. Also it wasnt just that he was purely faster than margarito, he was a much more skilled fighter. For those who say margarito was a walking punchbag, they really need to see these vids and rewatch if they dont understand that margarito was anything but a punchbag. He was fighting back but was getting the life countered out of him. Its all well and good saying 'he should have fought harder or threw more punches' or even 'he was open' but when you get smacked in the face 5-6 times everytime you make a move you might want to think again. Its the same thing in a mayweather fight. These two greats have such great boxing skills that they turn the fight into a chess match. Floyd has an emphasis on not getting hit in return when countering, whilst manny places the emphasis on hitting you as many times as possible when you make a mistake. Another point is that i dont think i have seen a fighter who fights as aggresively as pacquiao does against such big fighters. Most multi weight champs adjust there style to have success at the higher weights but manny is perfectly willing and able to let off over 1000 punches in a fight without hesitation. I shudder to think what he might do to fighters his own size at LWW. Imagine if he didnt have that threat of being muscled or hit with a near 20lb weight disadvantage. Aside from a ridiculous feat of figthing Sergio at MW and PBF i honestly dont see a fighter beating pacquiao at the moment and those two fighters are bad stylistic match ups in anything. Even with sergio if he was the same size as pacquiao it wouldnt be competitive. On an unrelated point, Carl froch is an extremely underated boxer. I was seeing boxing skills in that fight which signalled to me that we were seeing an elite boxer not some crude brawler. The cobra tag was fitting for that performance. Using that side on stance to minimize the availible target. Keeping the lead hand low both to pierce the high guard from up jabs and also to protect the body from the opponents lead hand. Making full use of his height and reach advantage. The fight has inspired me to make a highlight vid of the froch-abraham fight to show just how much of a schooling that was in a strict technical boxing sense.
Pacquiaos speed and skill arent in question! Margarito barely takes a step back in this fight... or to the side... or moves his head at all!!! This is why people say he is a punchbag!! He is easy to hit!! Props to manny for the way he fought him though. he could have made it a lot easier. i personally would love to see him fight cotto again because although cotto wasnt exactly the old, confident cotto we know from the mosley and judah fights, he was actually boxing very well until he lost his head and walked onto a manny str8 left!! I wonder how cotto will fight manny if he ever gets another shot at him?! will he keep his cool and box? or will he steam in and get countered again?? Cotto is mannys most impressive win since berrera!!
Pac is a great fighter, but Margarito is one of the easiest fighters to hit in the sport. He gets offended if you miss.
He might not have been a punching bag but his face was catching all of those punches from Pac like a catchers mitt. lol
