PS, Margo's punishment shouldnt be a ban... it should be to get in the ring with Cotto without his plaster. The man would probably shite himself.

Well if you have turned around and said you were 14, I'd almost understand why you have to be so dismissive regarding the issue. Fine, you're not prepared to believe Margarito never used the hand-wrapping before. However, he has never hit Miguel Cotto with any kind of brick, I can guarantee you that. Also, the last kind of fighter Miguel wants to be fighting is someone who can take all of his best shots, and still be sporting a very high work rate in the 11th round of a fast-paced fight.

You can discredit Margarito's punching power, but his ability to take punishment and maintain a higher work rate than Miguel is what won him the fight that night. Cotto has to live with the fact that he kneeled before another man his whole life, but he can comeback from it, and I bloody hope he does. Cotto is all that is good about Boxing.

Blame Margo for putting a question mark on his whole career by attempting to cheat and getting caught not by the commision but by Richardson. Had the commision caught him, I would agree with you both...cos if they caught him now, if he did try to cheat in the past they should have caught him. However they failed to catch him now, so they must have failed in the past. Richardson caught him now, and he wasnt around in the past :deal

 

i wouldn't trust in what the commission say. If they said that they had no clue if margo cheated in his fight vs Cotto then it would make them look like a complete joke, so of course they "cleared" him out.

 

Or, they could have cleared him before Margarito's work rate and punch resistance beat Miguel Cotto?

 

Listen mate, I can see you point but to dismiss loaded gloves as a non factor against Cotto because of the circumstances of the victory is either stupid or just lacking complete analysis of the situation. Lets examine what we perceive to have won the fight for Margo:

chin - Margo's chin would appear tougher because Cotto would be backing up more whilst throwing his punches. Cotto is backing up more because Margo's punches hurt more-plaster.

workrate - You go 3 rounds with me in the ring with me wearing 10oz gloves, then go 3 rounds with me wearing 4oz gloves. You will see your wrokrate drop and mine go higher. My confidence goes up as I feel im hurting you more than you are hurting me(plaster) and your workrate drops as you are just a bit more spent, of course from the brick battering im giving you.

KO - If Cotto can go 10 rounds with Margo's loaded gloves, surely possible he would go 12 with Margo not wearing plaster?

Now all in all, if Cotto wasnt getting hurt as much, if Margo knew he wasnt hitting as hard, do you not think the outcome of the fight would be different.

Again, we will never know. Margo put a big ? on his career.

Miguel Cotto was hurt very badly by a lot of fighters during his career. Judah, Corley, and Torres to name three. Just because Margarito's punches were having an effect, is no indication that Antonio was wearing plaster. It's just speculation. His win over Cotto was as a result of his determination, punch resistance, and conditioning. Those qualities have and never should be questioned, irrespective of this new business.

 

You cannot prove that Margo did not cheat in that fight, and I cannot prove that he did cheat in that fight. However we can prove that he did try to cheat in the fight after that fight and the commissions failed to spot it, it is therefore perfectly possible that they failed to spot in in Cotto's fight too. We will never know but you would have to be naive to believe that he only decided to start loading his gloves straight after the biggest win of his career.

Margo had a freepass with his plaster until Richardson came along...its hard to believe he only took advantage of it once and it just so happens to be when Richardson was around.

 

His life is over . Hopefully he'll end up living in some dingy 6 by 6 foot room behind some crappy gym like Luis Resto.
