Margarito speaks on PW and DLH - NO COPYRIGHT MATERIAL IN HERE

This was in an interview done by another boxing website with Margarito and his co manager recently in response to numerous comments from DLH, summarized in my own words. (nothing copied or pasted)




The events that occurred behind the scenes since the Williams - Margarito fight:

After the first fight, Margarito and his camp pursued an immediate rematch by filing a petition with WBO to become Williams' mandatory. Dan Goosen, PW's promoter, finneagled an optional defense in the works so that PW didn't have to face Margarito right away. Top Rank moving in the interest of its fighter, lined up Margarito with a fight in the meantime. Margarito fought and destroyed Johnson. Williams at this point still had not set a date or found an opponent. So Top Rank looked for another suitable fight for Margarito.

Williams was the first choice as he was the mandatory, but other prospects were Judah, Cintron and Cotto as possibles. Judah turned the fight down, and since Cotto is a TR fighter also, they decided to have Margo and Cotto in seperate bouts and then have the winners face each other, so they set out to get Margarito a Cintron rematch if Williams did not win. During this time Williams finally fought for his optional defense against Quintana. Before PW-QuintanaI fight, it was extremely difficult to make the Cintron fight happen obviously, but after PW lost, everything set into place quickly. This worked out for Goosen and PW because now he could rematch Quintana right away to try to avenge his loss.

Margarito demolished Cintron and Cotto making him a 3 time champ. Williams got beat by Quintana and then beat him back to regain his title. Now PW is calling Margarito out as if he had been ducking PW all along and PW has been waiting. Margarito's camp points out that he was champ for five years and made 8 straight defenses. PW had his title for 6 months and lost in his first defense. Margarito wants no one to make a mistake: Goosen and PW did not want an immediate rematch, Margo and Top Rank did thier job to get one, but they made Margarito wait on PW's time, so now Margarito feels it is justified that PW can wait on his time.




On Oscar promising Margarito a fight almost a decade ago:

For years and years Margarito used to be DLH's sparring partner (As you saw that other thread 'Oscar already knocked out Margo' in that gay music video). Margarito would inquire if Oscar would ever fight him. Oscar told him every single time that he would fight Margarito if Margarito ever won a world title. In 2002 when Margarito won his title for the first time, he looked for a fight with DLH but DLH was no where to be found. Not soon after Margarito confronted DLH at a media event, and DLH told him that he might fight Margo. But a few days later he told Margo that there nobody had heard of him and that he was going to fight someone else for more money.




DLH repeatedly said that he would fight the winner of Cotto-Margarito and is acting in general like a man with no balls:

DLH has given the following excuses for not fighting Margarito --

1- He says the Mexican people will hate him if he makes this fight.

Margo's Response: Oscar DLH does not give a **** what the Mexican people think. Oscar said that he would not fight a Mexican in his last fight, and now he is considering Mexican-American Sergio Mora. For weeks on end DLH said two things in the build up to Cotto-Margarito fight:
a) "I will fight the winner! It will make for a great fight."
b) "Everyone should know Miguel Cotto will win."
If Oscar DLH cared what the Mexican people thought why would he disrespect Margarito and Mexican boxing fans in this way? This angered and incensed Mexicans and personally insulted Margarito, who supported DLH, a fellow mexican, for many years.

Nonetheless Margarito thought it was good that he would finally get his shot at DLH if he won, that DLH had promised him so many years ago.

Now he has won and DLH had nothing more to say on fighting the winner.


2- He says that to make this fight is an insult to PW.

Margo's response: DLH should reconsider who is insulting who between him and PW. Margo already revealed the truth behind the PW situation. Margo and his camp did what they could to make the rematch happen, and PW didn't want it. PW made him wait, so now PW can wait.











Margarito thinks that DLH is a man's man for trying to get in the ring with a 135 lb fighter and argue to the world by beating him it is proof that he still has it. He should be called a saviour, a hero.

Margarito thinks DLH has run out of excuses and must make good on his multiple promises to fight him starting close to a decade ago. Margo won his title, sold out big arenas, and has sold PPV's, like DLH wanted him to. Now Margo wonders what DLH's new reason will be not to fight him.

 

I said it before and I'll say it again, its damn refreshing to have this Margarito character in the sport of boxing.

 

But its okay for Williams to avoid Tony when he feels like it? It works both ways, Margo wanted Williams read the article, this whole situation stemmed from Williams avoiding Margo rematch in the first place. It is his fault so he can kiss Margo's ass and I agree with him. Oscar promised tony a fight from long ago, and he said that he would fight the winner of Cotto-Margo. Margo wants whats due to him. I can see why he is calling for it especially now that Oscar is the cash cow.

 

Agreed. Obviously Margo is a stand up guy, and he takes things like pride and promises seriously. DLH promised years ago as well as before the Cotto fight. So Margarito feels like he deserves to fight the cash cow rightfully.

 

Ok so would you rather see DLH-Pacquaio?
How about DLH-Mora?

****ing DLH has disrespected fans with these idiotic fights. Get his ass in the ring with the next logical live body. THat would be Margarito.

Williams made him wait, they didn't offer Margarito a rematch after he beat Cintron. They had thier own agenda, so now they can wait while on Margarito's agenda.
