GBP knows this would be a hot ticket in southern cali because Margarito and Mosley are both well known down there. But 2 million to the champ IS a lowball offer when there could easily be up to 10 million for the purse split.

Margarito does fight for respect and has proven that in the past. But when you tell a man that if he does such and such, that he can expect better paydays and then you don't come through what do you expect? You expect him to let 37 year old Mosley and GBP play a bull**** offer and expect Tony to man up because of his rep? That's a crock of **** if I've ever heard one.

Cotto got 3 million for Mosley last year. Margarito gets 2 this year after Mosley struggles with old Mayorga? Thats bull**** and you know it. No, the crock of shite is how AM turned down fights with Williams, Clottey and Shane. You can talk about low ball offers, what a fighter deserves etc, but AM turned down those fights. The same guys that called Floyd a coward are now defending AM for his decisions lol.

How the hell are Mosley or Williams high-risk low-reward? High-risk, high-reward maybe, but there was quite a bit of financial incentive for him to take those fights, and honestly, I just don't see him getting a better paying fight.

I do agree that Shane isn't a great matchup for Margarito though. He could outbox Margarito, and since he has a better chin than Cotto, it's possible that he wouldn't wear down the same way. That said, I doubt Mosley has enough left in the tank to win anyway.

 

You're smoking crack if you think there's more than about $6M that can be spent on purses for a Mosley-Margo fight, and it's probably even lower than that in this economy. It wouldn't sell on PPV, and HBO already offered to pitch in $2M for TV rights. And for as popular as they are in SoCal, when's the last time you saw a SoCal fight have a big gate, other than DLH-Forbes? Every fight that's been in SoCal lately has been half empty.

Bob Arum has the exact same financial incentives as Margo. If he didn't think it was a winnable fight and the best purse he was going to get, he wouldn't have been pushing the fight on Margo.

 

10 Million? Mosley has never brought in solid PPV numbers and you think he could bring in good numbers against Margo? Wouldn't happen, this fight would be on WCB if anything.

 

Cotto vs Shane was held in NYC which has more Puerto Ricans then Puerto Rico and Shane is a boxing name...Margo isnt that well known east of the Mississippi..This is a cross sectional fight and will not get the on-site views/fans that a fight between Shane and Margo could on the Westcoast, being that both men are from the west coast, and it would be huge in LA with two native sons..I think that it would due close to Oscar vs Shane numbers which were huge. Now PPV wise I think that Cotto vs Margo may edge Margo vs Shane, but not by much.
