I hope this fight happens. Then people will finally recognize clotteys skill in the ring. defensivily and offensivly. Clottey keeps his gaurd tight througout the whole 12 rounds. He also is excellent at defelcting shots off of his arm and shoulder. Cotto is going to have a rough time finding a way in. Whats really laughable is your confidence in someone who has shown shaky legs in many of his fights. Even running away from mosley during the last 4 orunds of their fight. clottey is like a rock, Miguel is like a squishy tomatoe.

huki, you also misunderstood i think...i don't believe i ever said it was a cut-and-dry Clottey win and that it would be ultimate folly to score it close for Margarito. if i made comments in such a vein i apologize, they were probably just backlash to stress my point - which is that the very common acceptance of it being an obvious and unquestionable win for Margarito is OUTLANDISH. There were enough close rounds that it could have been within a three-point margin for either guy (116-112 for Tony is simply too wide to stomach, and 118-109 is just a case of blatant corruption, very plausibly a bribed judge). I feel at the time I was relatively objective as I had not yet begun to resent Tony so much (obviously I would take my initial gut scoring of any Margarito fights now with a grain of salt ) - and without much emotion involved at the time I had it a three-point win for Clottey. For so many people to just shrug their shoulders and say "Well the voices in the TV set told me that Margarito won the last eight rounds in a row hands down, so I guess that's what happened :conf " - that's what got under my skin like poison ivy.

true. the margo loss was bad luck for him...he probably would be more recognized. he's a very natural fighter.

i dont have my actual scorecards but it was a close fight, margo is a tough guy to beat cus he keeps coming with heart.

Round 6: I'm not sure what's up with your 9-9. This is a round that Clottey decided to take a break in. He basically had his guard up for almost the entire 3 minutes and Margarito should without a doubt be awarded this round on volume of punches alone.

Round 8: Margarito controlled this round, threw more shots, landed more shots, was more effective in every way, and looked better overall. I can't understand how in the world you could give Clottey this round.

Round 10: Clottey was definitely more effective than Margarito this round. He fought defensively and landed much better shots, while Margarito was frustrated and didn't do much but miss punches. How could you give round 8 to Clottey but not this round? It was easily his best round after the 4th.

Round 11: Very clear Margarito round. Clottey was tired after being active in round 10 and took a break again. There is no way you can argue that Clottey won this. He did nothing. I wish you could tell me how you scored it for him.

Round 12: A much closer round than 11. I scored it 10-10, but if I had to pick a winner it would definitely be Margarito. Like I said before, Clottey tried to steal this round by firing a few quick slapping combinations and fought in very short spurts.. he didn't do enough to win it.

Scoring this fight 115-112 Clottey shows that you are biased against Margarito to me. There is no logical reason to give a round like 11 to Clottey. I don't really want to argue about scoring unless you watch this fight again and rescore the rounds (and really see what happened). I think if you forget the fact that it's a guy you hate fighting, you'll be able to see that he won rounds 6, 8, and 11 clearly.

Yes, the 118-109 Margarito score is a case of blatant corruption, but I think 115-112 Clottey would be as well. In rounds 6/8/11 I don't think it's a situation where they could go either way. These three rounds have to be scored for Margarito. I hope you go back and look at them again, I can give you a link where you could download it pretty fast if you want.

Yeah I'd love to go back and see it again fresh to compare notes with you. Going to bed now, but will look as soon as I can tomorrow. :thumbsup

Keep in mind that my bias prior to this fight was not yet full-blown. :yep I was just slightly annoyed by the hype surrounding the guy, and knew next to nothing of Clottey.

Clottey's guard is nothing special (especially when he's tired) and Cotto would prove this. His stamina is horrible and his offense will pose zero problems to Cotto. Don't compare Mosley to Clottey. Even at an older age he has WAY more stamina/heart than Clottey and his skills/abilities are on a much higher level. Clottey is like a rock because he survived 12 rounds with the monster Margarito?

I would bet anything that Cotto would win this. You want an avatar bet? If Cotto wins you wear any avatar I choose for 1 month and admit you knew nothing about the matchup in a new thread, if Clottey wins I will wear any avatar for 1 year and do the same.

Alright, I'll PM you once I find it. I'm glad you're willing to explain why Clottey won and you're not just running off or turning this into an insult thread like many ESB posters would. :D

I'm going to go ahead and agree with you that Clottey's name should NEVER be mentioned in the same breath as SSM's. :yep

I am not going to bet one month off or anything for that matter with you. I will make my bet with sportsbook.com, and come back here and just be content reading all the posts giving Joshua his due.

Cotto will beat Clottey on mental fortitude.

Oh and Eze, that hand injury was nothing more than a bruised knuckle. He didn't break his hand.

I guess it's easy to see who's more confident in our fighter out of us two then.. and I wasn't talking about months off, it's only an avatar bet.

I hope you don't waste a penny betting on Clottey. I wouldn't bet on him if the odds were +2000. If you want to win, put that money on a straight win / KO win for Cotto.

Cotto could beat him with pneumonia. He's on a much, much higher level in every single way.

    I disagree.

Margo obviously made an adjustment and decided to fight Clottey from mid-range.

Clottey used his hand as an excuse.

i scored it 115-113 margarito but i'm sure i would have had clottey winning if he didn't hurt his hand. clottey looked simply under -estimated and antonio looked the opposite. ihad williams edging margarito in july, but i thought boyh looked mediocre in comparison to cotto and mayweather
