It will be interesting to see how Cotto looks in his comeback fights before this rematch. I think he can bounce back strong and hopefully he can make the necessary adjustments to beat Margo. I just don't know what those adjustments might be. Still, I give props to Cotto for willing to rematch Margo, just like I gave props to Cintron for doing the same thing.
I don't know if he's the boogie man, but he's definitely the guy who took Miguel and Kermit's best shots and kept coming forward and throwing punches until he stopped them. That's extremely impressive. Heck, maybe you're right; maybe he is the boogie man.
It's going to be very difficult for Miguel to beat Tony. People that are saying Cotto needs to come out with a better gameplan are ridiculous. Cotto came out with a solid gameplan when they fought. He was landing shots, and TRYING to move away. But Margarito is a Tornado. He will keep coming at you. I think Tony takes the rematch.
I will tell Junito to fight the first half of the fight as in the same way as to their first bout. The adjustment he needs to make are: Better conditioning over all, keep Margo in the center of the ring, clinch, clinch and clinch (at least after round 6) and forget about Margo's head... Margo has a freaking helmet, he needs to open Margo's body a concentrate there for at least 55% of the rounds. Basically frustrate Margo with movement and a combination of body punches so stops chasing for a while.
He could stay on the move and limit his offense to one or two punches at a time. He'll survive but the scorecards won't be pretty. Margarito leaves a good impression coming forward constantly and throwing punches. His aggression may be enough to sweep some rounds as Cotto becomes less and less interested in exchanges. People act like Cotto can throw a couple punches and then tie up. It isn't that easy. For starters Margarito is very strong. Secondly he tucks his elbows which makes it hard for him to be tied up. Clottey found this out when he tried to employ a similiar strategy in their fight. Margarito likes to rip those uppercuts inside. His stance is perfect against a clincher. He brings those uppercuts up underneath to the body and the head. Anytime you think about grabbing him you have to go through that. Where Cotto was getting hit was by simply backing up. Everytime he backed up he was in danger of eating a right hand. That second round proved as much. However if he goes forward he's going to be running into a stronger, bigger guy with a very good inside game. To go forward would probably end in spectacular fashion for Margarito. To go backwards might get a points win, but it also might not. Remember how happy RJJ was to just go the distance with Tarver in their third fight? This could play out alot like that one.
I'm glad to hear this, and I think Cotto can very well take the rematch. Just make a few tweaks here and there and I think he walks out victorious.
Looks like Paul Williams is getting shut out... again. As much as I and every other boxing fan on the planet would enjoy a Cotto-Margarito rematch, Williams deserves the next crack at a big fight. How about a Williams-Cotto "eliminator", with the winner to meet Margarito?
:think :think :think :think I like the idea although the fights Margo / Cotto II Margo / Williams II Cotto / Williams All this fights have to happen, in no particular order if you ask me.
I don't think Cotto can win a retreating fight against Margarito, under any circumstances. Margarito just isn't bothered by his head shots. Cotto needs to find a way to work Margarito's body, or else Margo will always be too strong for him in the late rounds. I know it may sound crazy, but I think Cotto's best bet may be to do the exact opposite of what he did in the 1st fight, meaning going right at Margarito and banging him in the body. Sure, Cotto may well get knocked out doing this as well, but IMO he needs to put some hurt on Margo in order to have a chance to beat him, and that's the only way I think he can do it.
Agreed, should be a great fight....Not sure how you can blame Cotto, only warriors want to avenge their losses(something margo should try and do. Santos or Williams anyone?) Anyhow this fight will be just as exciting as the first.
Gandul, that's as good as any advice I've heard for what Cotto can do in the rematch. I agree about not concentrating on Margo's head. It looks like it would take a hit with a baseball bat for Margo to feel it.
