My heart says Cotto can do it..He can make the necessary tactical changes and scrape by Margarito this time. As much as I hate to see it, he does have to hold. And I think fellow Rican John Ruiz needs to show him some moves. He knows now you can just go punch for punch with a fighter like Marg, he has to stiffle that attack. But my head say Cotto was in absolute peak shape that night, fought a good fight and gave his all. He just wasnt good enough to beat the bigger man. Thats the way Cotto fights, thats why he has been sucessful and Im not sure he will drastically change his approach in a rematch.
I'll be very curious to see how Margarito looks in his next fight. I've been saying for some time now that he's slowing down. Who knows? Cotto might have alot more factors in his favor - including a Madison Square Garden packed to the rafters full of Puerto Rican fans going absolutely berserk. There will be fewer Mexicans in New York, than there were Puerto Ricans in Las Vegas, we can be sure of that. And the Puerto Rican fans are brilliant boxing fans, they will cheer everything Cotto does, loudly.
Cotto gets stopped again. I wish he would train in some high mountains some where to work on his stamina.
Objectively Margo is the favourite in this fight too. I wouldn't be very surprised if it went the same way as the first match. But I'll go for the upset, Cotto by UD, IF Cotto somehow manages NOT to fade after round 7 or 8.
So far the smartest pick is Margarito and for obvious reasons. For me it all depends on how Cotto performs in his next fight regardless of the opponent, if he shows the same stuff then he has a good chance, if he shows some decline or lack in confidence then I don't really need to comment on what will happen in a rematch with Margarito. Cotto needs to show improvements, he needs to STOP going to the ropes and kneel down to welcome those expected/obvious/slow uppercuts when he can do better than that by countering quick(he has the speed advantage), holding or side stepping out of there. I really don't know what to expect here, I'm thinking Cotto will bring the same stuff as he always does and that's not really good news. Cotto needs stamina in this fight and I really don't think he will show any improvements there. You have bad stamina against someone like Margarito you're basically doomed and won't make it to the end. Margarito by either a decision for doing more this time against a, as I expect, too cautious Cotto or a stoppage. I'm definitely giving Cotto a chance but after what I saw in the first fight it didn't look too good for him, he spent his career kneeling down the way he does and doing that against Margarito isn't really smart as was visible already.
Margarito by stoppage - He does it easier the second time... Cotto's levies have been breached and permanently weakened.
That's a good point that you make. ^ Something else that people have been talking about for a long time is the speed at which Cotto seems to train during press week before the fight. Now that's just for the cameras, we all know that, he moves at what seems to be half or even quarter speed - but what do we see when he gets in the ring? A pretty ****ing leisurely pace, right? In the Margarito fight Cotto was even at that speed when it might have served him better to get on the gas a little bit and get the **** out of the way... But he's Mr. Cool about it all. Makes no sense to me. Cotto does everything real slow and easy with his chin up in the air in what seems to be this real badass type flair - and I'm not talking about the Gomez fight. He does everything real slow, even in training. Jump rope, running, sparring, pad work, heavy bag.. I think he paid the price for some of that against Margarito, and he will again if he elects to insist on being the boxing equivalent of David Caruso on CSI Miami.
I think Cotto will win the early rounds with Marg getting strong in the middle and so on, to a close but clear decision win for Marg. Kinda like the first fight but without the stoppage. Thats all i can see happening from my perspective.
Well, hopefully we'll get more detailed explanation from those picking Cotto this time out. I won't hold my breath however. Almost ten picks for a Cotto victory, and virtually no info on how that might come about.
For the one's that pick Cotto sorry homies but YOU JUST http://www.youtube.com/v/Z1xqm7gmBjs&hl=en&fs=1
