I think generally we are all in agreement. Miguel Cotto wins by outboxing his taller opponent, whereas Margarito wins by stoppage.

I don't think its unreasonable to think the latter may happen. There is no evidence throughout Antonio's career of him ever being stopped or on the bring of being stopped. The same cannot be said for Miguel Cotto.

I still pick Cotto, but anything can happen in this wonderful sport. :good

Definitely. This sport seems to be getting better and better. The big fights are being made, between entertaining, big names. Better sports coverage equals better money, happier promoters, and finally, more happy fans.:D

The only way Margarito could be stopped, though, is on cuts, ala Daniel Santos (I know Cotto isn't anything like Santos in terms of style, but Margarito has been around, and is somewhat susceptable to cuts).

I do agree though- it's more likely to be a Cotto decision or a Margarito TKO- I'll go with the Cotto decision.

In the words of Harvey Keitel from Pulp Fiction . . ."Lets not go sucking each others dikcs just yet"

We still have Ricky Martin fighting 2 pounds, and the pointless Fraud rematches with Ricky Martin and Hatton.

Although Cotto-AM is definatley a fight fans fight.

Who's Ricky Martin?:huh That latin-singer from the nineties who was livin' la vida loca for a short period?:nut :patsch

You mean the lame alphabet belts that are meaningless? I used to recognize the Ring Magazine champions as the true linear world champs, but when they were bought out by Golden Boy, they lost alot of their credibility.

lolololol Cotto is gonna school this guy so bad. Cotto is going to look like Pernell Whitaker in there next to Margarito, Ok I'm exaggerating but I still see a lopsided decision

But you acknowledge that Miguel Cotto is vunerable to some of Margarito's strengths?

    Of course!!!

My prediction is as follows. The fight has a possibility to be HELL for Cotto I'm not ignoring it but I think its a greater possibility that Cotto beats this cat down real hard.

Margarito has a great chin, Applies serious pressure, and has good punch output + a nice uppercut.

They're all things that stir up to mean nothing but trouble for Cotto.

But I also see things that will mean nothing but Trouble for Margarito. If Margarito experiences 1) Frustration 2) Respect for Cotto's power 3) Intimidation for Cotto's skill 4) Off balance from Cotto's timed punches 5) A swelled up face because of the granite that is in Cotto's fist.

he AS WELL will be in trouble, and who is the fighter that will have a Plan A and B and C? It ain't Margarito. Margarito has plan A and thats to hurt Cotto and wear him down.

I'm not saying that Cotto can't get hurt by Margarito, But I'm also saying that Margarito better come in with a tight defense, some insane endurance, and his hand speed better be on its A+ game because he can't afford to slow down a step with Cotto.

Cotto doesn't just hit you and move, he doesn't just outbox you. He damages you and if you're getting hit by 40-50% of Cotto's shots it is only a matter of time before your body breaks down.

I think you're overrating Miguel Cotto's ability somewhat. Make no mistake about it, I rate Miguel very highly and make him a live opponent if he were to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. But I don't see Margarito being intimidated by Cotto's skill. He is a veteren of the game, and has the look of a man who fears very little. Likewise, Margarito always brings to the table plenty of workrate and great energy levels. This is why I don't see Cotto stopping Antonio.

I agree with nearly everything you've said though. I just don't see any intimidating going on in the ring, as they are both champions and very confident ones. Cotto has never smelled defeat and Margarito has just convincingly stopped a legitimate contender for the 2nd time. Going to be a greatly contested fight.

Yeah Indimitation is a bit of a stretch if you think about how long Margarito has been in the game but anything is possible. What can kill a boxer is frustration, expecially an experienced fighter who has been in the game for so long, if he finds himself without an answer to Cotto than he will become very confused.

I'm not overrating Cotto's overall skill I should have specified. Defensively Cotto also has flaws, But as far as skill I am speaking of his offensive technical punching. Cotto's punches are an absolute thing of beauty.

I mean look at Margarito's last couple of opponents, They have been on the **** ass spectrum as far as "technical punchers"...that guy he ko'd in 1 round and Cintron were those his last 2 opponents? Cintron doesn't know how to punch, he is wide slow and predictable and totally telegraphed.

Who's on the other side of the spectrum? As far as clean punching is concerned Cotto is TEXT book and is almost as untelegraphed as a fighter can be with his punch rate. I honestly see Margarito having a hard time to adjust to Cotto at first.

Margarito needs to take Cotto into deep waters, Cotto needs to set the tempo and really control the fight from early on.

Its going to be a kick ass fight! I like both fighters btw.

Cotto next to Margo is the best welter in the world. Some will put Cotto a bit higher but truth be told Shane wanted no part of Margo and it's really unfair to use that fight as leverage to put Cotto higher.

Margo imo didn't take Williams seriously. He knew he had to fight him but he probably figured he could knock Williams out so he loaded up one punch at a time (which isn't his strength because his form isn't that good) and just stalked Williams for rounds before doing anything.

He gauged Cintron as a real threat in both fights and it showed. He will gauge Cotto as a real threat as well.

Now this is something that all the guys before Cotto have feared. A Margo who lives up to his potential and fights the A level fight. A guy they didn't want to lose to because of his record and because of his star appeal being so low. They all know that Margo has it in him to be the best welter in the world he just needs a reason to bring it out. And when Margo starts fast he is awesome to watch.

All I'm saying really is that Cotto is an even bigger name than Cintron. So expect Margo to come in not only sharper, but more explosive and more conditioned than he's ever been before. He won't be the same man you saw against Williams you can bet on that.
