Okay on HBO this Saturday we got

Antonio Margarito (37-5) defending his WBA Welterweight title vs Shane Mosley (45-5)

    some quick facts/pointers

Margarito's last fight was July 26, 2008 vs Cotto where he won by 11th round TKO to pick up the WBA title and break Cotto's undefeated record.

before that fight Margarito for the second time defeated Kermit Cintron by 6th round knockout in April to pick up the IBF belt.

Shane Mosley's last fight was September 27, 2008 vs Ricardo Mayorga at Junior Middleweight where Mosley overcame a not so great performance to wind up stopping Mayorga with 2 knock downs in the very last round to win by kayo.

the previous Mosley fight was a UD loss to Miguel Cotto at Welterweight.

so with all that said ^

going into Margarito/Mosley some see Shane as a bit old and past it, and at 37 years old that's pretty understandable. to say Mosley is in his prime would be way off. However Mosley's always came to fight, and gave a pretty good account of himself even in a loss vs Miguel Cotto.

as for his fight vs Mayorga Im split down the middle .. yes Mosley didn't look his best and was fighting back at 154

however can we really blame Mos for not bringing his A game? he's fighting Mayorga .. someone Trinidad and De La Hoya already wasted

this fight vs Margarito really puts Mosley to the test, and not only gives hims a chance at beating the man at 147, but beating someone (Margarito) Cotto couldn't

with all that in mind I expect a competitive and close fight, however barring anything crazy im banking on Margarito's workrate + chin coming through and leading to a UD with scores of 7-5, 7-5 and 8-4.

what are your predictions for the fight?

Mosley is a tough SOB. I'm going with Tony by decision.

Can there be a Mosley by decision option?

My gut reaction is Margarito UD. I don't think Marg stops Mosley. But I also think Mosley will have his moments. Maybe a 8-4 UD for Marg.

Mosley UD, I hope the reports of divorce aren't true though, he could bring that to the ring with him.

    o wow just caught that

dunno if I can edit polls

but treat it like the Marg options

    the same order follows.

2nd Mosley choice would be a decision win

but nah there's purposely no "Mosley by decision" because IMO if he doesn't win by Kayo it'll be Marg by death .. taking into consideration that Margarito has no regard for human life.

Both men are tougher than nails and both have cast iron chins. When you combine that with mutually high work rates and a proclivity to slugging matches, this could prove to be a 12 round slug fest and candidate for fight of the year. As Margarito is the bigger man, and younger, he has to be the favorite. Going into this fighter Mosley has to know that going toe-to-toe with Margarito is what Margarito wants and what he needs to win. Mosley could surprise us all and use his boxing skills. He hasn't used them in years, but he does have them. As I see it, the outcome of this fight depends on Mosley's strategy, and whether he will stick to it.

The options in your poll are ****ed up.

One should probably read: Mosley by decision.

I'm leaning towards the upset, and by decision.

Mosely might win this fight by split decision, but I would not bet on it.

Tough call on an outcome, at this point I just feel like I'd be guessing. The intangibles are going to be overwhelming. I'm getting pretty tired of these boxers having their period, showing their age, or having a bad night. There's a stack of 'IF's' in this one. Whichever guy shows up with the overall better constitution will win. There's more to explore, but this the foundation we're working with. It's going to be fascinating.
