I think that was the most ridiculous prediction in the thing.

But I think Benitez is rather underrated by most I talk to. Phenomenal, phenomenal boxer. True prodigy.

I'll get looking. I remember seeing one that predicted he'd reign on top or near the top of welterweight till he retired. I'll try to find that one. The thought of a fighter who leads with his chin ruling a division for a decade is lunacy.

 

Especially one with talent like WW. Margarito lost to Williams too shortly after.

 

He lost to Williams BEFORE.

He lost to Mosley right after, in a just backfire of his ducking of Paul Williams.

 

atsch I always mess my 2006-2008 dates up. Margarito had a lot of fights in that span.

And yeah, ducking that Williams rematch was dumb as hell.

 

I never got it, frankly. Williams defense was so unrefined at that stage(Improved later, was never elite, but improved), and Margarito had him dead to rights in the late rounds of that fight.

If it were me, I'd have felt extremely confident of taking him in a rematch. He was a fast start away from winning a repeat decision. Instead, he undermines his image as boxings most feared man by all but running. I was completely bemused.


That was a fun fight, though. I miss Paul Williams. It's looking like he'll walk again someday, but he'll never box again, no way, and that is heart breaking.

 

I'm not sure who was blame for turning it down though. Margarito for me doesn't seem like the type. They obviously thought Mosley was the easier money and the bigger name.

 

It's always a risk-reward thing taking on an old legend. If he's faded and shopworn, you've got a great scalp. If he conjures up some of his old stuff, you have a living nightmare.

Not the best style for Benitez but Benitez is far too skilled. Benitez > Mayweather for H2H ability IMO.

Margarito would be stopped on cuts AT LEAST by Cuevas.
