    Hey guys.

I've just watched this pretty entertaining fight in its entirety, and I thought I'd share my objective opinions with the general forum.

First of all, Margarito only weighed 160 on fight night whereas Santos had puffed up to an eventual 170. This was advantage Santos, and the size difference was telling in the ring.

Initially, Santos surprised everyone, he stared matching Margarito blow for blow and arguably hurt Margarito early. I say arguably, because he seemed to recover almost immediately, so therefore it could have been a balance issue. In any event, Santos was seemingly getting the better of the exchanges in his southpaw stance. However, the clash of styles also saw a lot of clashes of heads which eventually resulted in a bad cut over Margarito's right eye. Through the middle rounds, Santos seemed to want to box a little more and Margarito starting landing with heavy right hands. In once instance, Santos was visibly hurt and wobbled by a single shot inside. I was shocked to see Margarito damage someone weighing 170lb that easy with one shot. In any event, although Margarito followed up with a series of punches, a lot of them landing, he wasn't able to stop Santos.

The next couple of rounds saw Santos continue to box, with his corner strictly telling not to trade with him. This guy weight 170lb, and was fighting an opponent who had been campaigning at Welterweight, yet he was being told by his corner not to exchange. I found this strange. Anyhow, Margarito was starting to get the better of Santos now, who was getting most of his shots blocked by the arms of Margarito. Early in the fight, there is a disputed knockdown. Santos was hit with a body shot and went down on the ropes. The referee didn't think this was a knockdown, but he went down as a result of a blow so therefore I think it should have been a 10-8 round.

Although the fight was entertaining till its end, it unfortunately came to a halt because of the cut over Margarito's eye. After it was caused, the heads just kept coming together and even though Margarito would change his stance to prevent it, it was far to late. Santos was awarded the decision, but I had Margarito up by about 2 points.

Anybody who has seen this fight think Margarito won?

Santos is a pretty underated fighter. I thought he was edging in the rematch. It was really close.

It was a close fight, i had Margarito up aswell, but i dont think santos was knocked down, he was definately rocked and the ropes did help him stay up but it is harsh to class that as a 10-8 margo round

i had Margarito up by 1 point, but i understand if others had santos winning.
as for the fight it was in puerto rico, against a puerto rican, Margarito definately deserves more props for fighting a 170lb puerto rican in puerto rico, and hurting the man.

margarito didnt get to box in his favourite part of a fight, the last quarter, where he is very effective and if he did, it could have been a UD - SD margo

in the future Margarito vs Santos 3 would be good to watch, i dont think santos would be able to win a re-rematch.

I'm beginning to think that unless you are a middleweight, taller, and has bruising power with the exception of Paul Williams who can box him to death, I think no one can beat Margarito currently at welterweight. His style at 147 would kill him most likely if he went up to 154 and definitely at 160.

To be fair, it was the worst performance I've ever seen margarito give in the ring. He looked like an amateur that night, and has gotten much better since.

i had santos winning 5 rds to 4.

scored the fight twice and both times had it 5-4.

    it is close.

shame the stoppage came when it did.

although santos had a good 9th rd i seem to remember. :bbb

Lets start by saying the 1st fight was at 147lbs. And both went up to 154lbs. Then you are going to have to show me where I can see the weights. Because talking is cheap. Santos is only 1/2 inch taller than Margarito. He was 4 inches taller than Cotto and I don't see anyone complaining

I don't understand what your point is.

I'm just saying, Santos weighed 170 on fight night to Margarito's 160.

    I see.

You feel my thread was designed to discredit Santos victory?

    Well done, Santos.

However, he did weigh 170lb. That is a fact. I also had Margarito ahead of points.

Did you feel Santos was winning the fight up until round 10?

I had Margs up 2 rounds and closing in on KO'ing Santos

I remember Santos wieighing 170 and he still couldnt handle Margs

Margs looks alot bigger now more imposing than he did in the Santos fight and he has a gameplan

Santos does not want any part of Margs after his last 4-5 fight he has shown to be a monster

And if there is a 3rd fight lets not have in PR thats plain BS
