I dont wanna take credit for this, its actually a friend of mine, who posts here now and again (Bing), that pointed this out to me. It seems the guys that have done well against Marg are the guys who operate in the pocket well, and can counter there, not guys who run, they're simply hunted down and make Marg look like the avenging angel of death! Williams wasnt really movin all that much, he was using some decent angle-work and countering with good uppercuts etc. Also, matched Marg for workrate, but that was actually before Marg changed his workrate stylistically. Also, i havent seen all of Clottey-Marg, but from what ive seen of Clottey, he seems to have a good defence and can stand in front of an opponent while employing it and countering, and he was doing well against Margarito.

H2H, Leonard is probably the worst match for Margo. I don't see him doing anything in this fight except get hit. Somone like Napoles as well, who would be too slick (although Margo could cut up Mantequilla late). I got Robinson and Hearns to stop Margo somewhere around 10 rounds, probably sooner. It doesn't matter how good your chin is, Robinson took on a middleweight with the best chin of all-time and murdered him in the final rounds. He gets hit too much to stay in with someone who hits like that.

That was one fight when LaMotta was at the end of the line. Most of the fights were actually very close. A top flight Margarito would present some problems to SRR, though I would certainly pick the latter.

Margarito could trouble alot of the past WW's with suspect chins.

Let's keep in mind that in pre-1970s boxing today's Margarito would almost certainly be fighting in the middleweight division.

Well the weight limits never changed so he'd still be a welter.

Margarito would be a tall order for any WW in the past present or future. His size, durability, high workrate and relentless pressure would make him competitive against many ATGs.

I was referring to the fact that Margarito, like many modern-day fighters, take advantage of modern weigh-ins to fight a division or two below the one they would've fought in if there were same-day weigh-ins.

Essentially the question becomes "How would a great welterweight of the past handle a JMW/MW with durability, high workrate, and relentless pressure"?
