Margarito's gloves were probably 'loaded' for Clottey too.....

Remember that guys. Especially rounds 4 + 5 where he hit and hit and hit and hit Clottey over and over and over again.....

Suddenly I'm not quiet so sure Cotto has this in the bag.

No no no! I'm saying Clottey took Margarito's best shots with loaded gloves (especially rounds 4+5 over and over), got hit far more often than Cotto did but was not hurt or stopped like Cotto. Cotto definitely shouldn't be expected to win this is a 50/50 fight. I can't pick this fight.

I scored it a draw anyway. One of the judges, Eugene Grant? Was on crack.

Probably, probably not, all of Margarito's wins will always be looked at with speculation. You have a point though cause Clottey stayed in there, Cotto had both hands and was knocked out. Styles make fights so well see if weaknesses can be taken advantage of. Cotto is no doubt the better boxer, Clottey takes better shots, and throws alot, i guess well c.
Very Close Cotto SD with Clottey taking alot of final rounds. to the tune of 115-113 2x COTTO, 116 - 112 Clottey

It is a tough fight to call. Cotto has a chin like glass though.

    I disagree.

Cotto was broken down over 11 rounds. He also fought off his bike the entire time, which I've never seen him do before. He also had to cope with bloody nose(which he more than likely also swallowed) throughout most of the time. These factors, plus being continuously hit with left uppercuts all factored in to Cotto finally breaking down. It wasn't a single punch that ended Cotto, it was a continuous barrage. Cotto's defense wasn't effective enough for Margarito's constant pressure, and he had absolutely no answer for left uppercuts. Something which I noted Zab Judah had exposed.

Margarito has never had one punch knockout power. As with all pressure fighters, they rely on accumulation of punches to either win by KO or Points.

With the Clottey fight, he wasn't getting hit nearly as much as Cotto was because his style of fighting is much different than Cotto's. Clottey is very good at keeping a high guard and utilizing it to protect his face and his body. You'll notice Clottey is more times on the defensive than on the offensive. I honestly don't believe Clottey took Margarito's BEST shot, and even if he did, Margarito doesn't have the kind of power to stop people with one punch anyways, especially not someone with a decent chin. And as I said earlier, Clottey also didn't leave himself open enough(because he wasnt' as active) to get hit as much as Cotto did.

So...with that being said. You can't compare Margarito vs. Clottey to Margarito vs. Cotto, because they both fought very different fights. How do *I* think these styles with match up?

If Clottey fights his usual fight, then I believe he'll mostly rely on counterpunching to try and make Cotto pay for his pressure. Cotto doesn't protect himself nearly as much as Clottey because he's mostly an offensive fighter, but he sure as hell has much better defense than Margarito and is a much more versatile boxer.

Clottey may very well catch Cotto here and there, but he won't apply the kind of pressure that needs to be applied to beat Cotto down. And Cotto won't be able to hit Clottey(at least I don't think so) cleanly or often enough to KO Clottey.

I see Cotto's offense being more effective than Clottey's counterpunching. I think workrate will be the deciding factor in this fight.

    Decision for Cotto.
