Margarito's strategy is what took Cotto off his game plan

Guys, notice something about what Margarito said prior to the fight and his strategy, which in my opinion is why Cotto was not able to get off his usual onslaught body attack:

    1) Margarito said Cotto wasn't that good fighting backwards and that he was going to push Cotto back throughout the entire fight.
This proved to be successful and IMO is what prevented Cotto from delivering his signature body blows as he was concentrating on fighting while going back and avoid getting hit with bombs.
In addition, going backwards never allowed Cotto to plant his feet, which is why he was not able to sit down on his punches and create room for throwing his body blows.
    2) Margarito had his elbows tucked and was covering his body well. If you notice after the first or second round, Evengelista told Cotto to watch Margarito's elbows because he has them tucked in...Giving him a hint to be careful when he throws there to avoid injuring his hands I believe.
    3) Margarito invested tremendous amount of work to the body himself which proved to pay dividends in the long run.

I feel not enough credit was given to Margarito for doing things right in order to get the win, in comparison to what people are saying Cotto did wrong. Margarito imposed his will last night on the smaller man, did everything he was supposed to do. Much credit to Cotto for the warrior spirit, and giving a good account of himself, but someone had to give in to the heat in the kitchen.

I agree with what you said. I knew Cotto was gonna fight on the backfoot but I had no idea he was gonna do it through the whole fight while being massacred.:patsch

Still in shock over last night.
