This is one of those things I hate about boxing. The Cotto-Margarito fight will not be an unification fight. Why? Because Margarito is going to lose his title because he is not making the "mandatory" defense. He is going to a great fight. May be the most important fight of the year. But they wanted him to fight someone else. Meanwhile, "Mr. Prettyboy linear champ money May" can fight whoever the hell he wants without losing his title. This is BS!!!!!

Floyd Mayweather will sooner call out Berto than Cotto or Margarito.

I think he knew in advance that to get the shot at Cotto he would have to vacate his title, and probably didn't give a **** anyway.

The saving on the sanctioning fee will be added to his purse so i'm sure he would prefer a few extra quid than some belt which he would give him rather than face some tomato can following his mandatory.

Clottey deserved his shot more than Margorito did.

Everyone always wants to blame the sanctioning bodies. However, you really can't blame them in this case. Apparently, Arum wants his fighters to have as many belts as possible. Before Margo/Cintron II even happened, Arum, not the IBF, told both of them that they would have to vacate the title if they won and wanted to fight Cotto. Usually, Margo would have the choice of fighting his mando or filing for an exemption(the IBF just granted Wlad one). Instead, he was basically strong armed by his promoter into giving up the title.

How can you moan when a sanctioning body enforces the mandatories?!!?!??! This is a good thing, how else are non-named fighters meant to get their shot? They work their way up the rankings and SHOULD get their shot. Just because a champion can make more money fighting another star doesn't mean that the hard working contenders shouldn't get their chance.

What's the alternative? Champions choosing exactly who they fight!!!! You actually want this instead?!!?!!?!

That WBA title that Cotto has......... Belonged to Mayweather........... That IBF belt that Margarito has belonged to Mayweather.

    Get a clue jerkoff.

Yeah - Arum is just a greedy ****er.

Clottey is also his fighter and is the #1 contender for the IBF. He was Cintron's mandatory - but they allowed Cintron to fight Margarito. So, instead of having Margarito fight Clottey for the IBF Belt - he'll give it up and have Clottey fight someone else for the vacant title - while Margarito faces Cotto for his title. The more belts Arum has in his stable the happier he is - since everyone wants to fight for a belt - they'll have to come thru him.

me too but we can't have it both ways, the mandatory system needs to be protected. there is no reason why margarito couldnt fight cotto after he's fought his mandatory.

no, you get a clue! mayweather never had the 147 WBA title. in fact he has never won a WBA title. he won the IBF at 147 first, then vacated and won the WBC at 147. never ever the WBA

Because Arum won't let him. He is forcing Margo to give up his title. Margo is not being stripped, he's vacating due to pressure from his promoter.

Clottey, another Arum fighter, will fight for the vacant title. I guess he figures it's better to have 2 fighters who each have 1 title, then to have 1 fighter with 2 titles. He also claims that he doesn't want Clottey to wait longer for his title shot(pretty flimsy excuse considering he let Margo fight Cintron when Clottety was the mando). In the end, it doesn't matter. The IBF is not the reason Margo is dropping his belt, Top Rank is.

Judah was the WBA champ when he lost to Baldomir but Baldomir never paided the fees. So Baldomir was really the WBC, WBA and IBF champ when he lost to Mayweather.

    Get a clue jagoff.:good

Clottey has been on a winning streak fighting for the mandatory of the IBF title. He deserve it imo and it was long overdue(another example would be humberto soto not getting his shot at MAB).

Its only fair i think that margo would be force to vacate the belt, its not like he deserve to get a shot at cintron before winning the title as he didn't fight any rank fighters from IBF.

Cintron should have fought clottey before instead of feliciano.
