what convinces me even more was Paul Williams said after the fight he was in good enough shape and said he would give margarito a rematch anytime, that was right after the fight at the post match interviews, does that sound like someone scared or not confident? Williams basically admitted he wasn't fit enough but also showed he clearly isn't afraid of margarito's power just after having the match with him. Margarito can't knock williams out he gave it his absolute best go in round 11 and let his hands go and there is no way he could've done anymore, that starting late stuff was a lie as Margarito came forward from the word go, Margo met his match as far as chin goes and Paul Williams is good enough to do it again in a much more emphatic way as Margarito is going to buy into his own hype and go for ko from round 1
If their is a rematch I hope the referee wont allow Williams to hold every time Margarito gets in close because I want to see him get knocked out with body shots.
Margarito wins by late stoppage. Williams was ready to go late in the first fight, prior to the 12th. Tony simply ran out of gas because he spent too much time throwing one punch at a time. And he was putting everything on that one punch. He simply abandoned what he is good at. What works best for these sorts of brawlers is to amp up the punch volume, make it difficult for the opponent to figure out where the moneyshot is and then start to load up on them, selectively. For example in the first fight he would throw a simple 1-2. The right hand being the money punch. Instead of a 1-2, throw a 1-2-3-4 punch combination. Jab, right hand, left hook to the body, uppercut. Then mix up which one is gonna be the money shot. Maybe the hard right hand, maybe the hard left hook to the body, maybe the hard uppercut. The trick effectively is to shut down your opponent's perception of what to block. I think that Tony understands this and when he's on he really shows it. Usually he does figure it out in the midway of fights, and he starts to find his range. Ideally what I'd like to see from him is to match Williams punch for punch right from the start. He has little to fear from Williams because he has a tremendous chin. So he should cut the ring off by moving to Williams' right, then leading with the right hand, cutting him in close with the left to the body and then bringing the uppercut upstairs. He cannot let Williams hold on either. He's going to have to keep his arms inside and shove off everytime Williams tries to grab. And put an right behind that shove. I thought Tony looked real good in the second half of that fight. And I also think since then he has started faster (Cintron, Johnson, 2nd round against Cotto). Williams isn't as slick as Cotto and I truly believe Tony started slower than normal against Williams the first time. I lean towards Tony doing what got him here. Be busy, stay busy and make the other guy fight your fight. That's why I pick him by late TKO this time around.
I have to agree with this [IF] Margarito can somehow find a way past that long pole jab that was just simply disrupting and taming him in the first fight, Margarito will find it hard to go to the body without getting smacked across the head by Paul williams due to superior speed/reflexes/reach advantage, But if he can get inside like you said he can win, The thing is last time he couldnt and when he did he couldn't take him out and was spent, what's the diff with Margo this time? PW doesn't need to change a thing Margo needs to fight a different fight to win or else if he believe that bull**** himself of "I started late" he gonna lose exact same way
Margo by late TKO. This will be a different fight from the first. Margarito practically gave up the first 4 rounds doing jack, but when he amped his output he had Williams making pain faces at bodyshots and almost knocking him out in the 11th. Margarito also gave us his strategy before the fight, rely on single power shots rather than volume, which ultimately resulted in not being enough. Next time he needs to stick to what he does, swarm Paul and the stoppage will come somewhere in the late rounds. :good
Well, it wasn't that he started too late it was that he had the wrong idea coming in. And he didn't realize it until it was too late. Too many rounds had gone by. Margarito simply cannot just throw 1-2s and compete. He isn't sharp enough or schooled enough to make those 1-2s count. Not against the top guys. What he has to do is work in numbers and select his hard shots from there. There is no secret why he's been successful throwing 100s of punches per round. It's all due to the numbers being much more difficult to judge from. As far as the jab goes he's just going to have to keep his guard high and walk through them. If he doesn't he'll probably drop a decision again. But we'll see.
P.Williams has a lot of power but I don't think he can hurt Margarito. Margarito has a lot of power but its looked like he was hurting P.Williams more than P.Williams was hurting Margarito last July. Margarito has to match punch for punch against P.Williams. This fight comes down to if Margarito gets off to a fast start. If so, I think Margarito wins. If not, then P.Williams wins. But whatever the result, this fight is better than Cotto-Margarito because both guys throw a lot of punches, have power, have a lot of heart, and have a steel chin. These guys will stand there and beat the crap out of each other for 12 rounds!!
