Anyone remember this fight? It's 10 year anniversary was last month.

This was the fight that Takaloo really came of age on the British scene. Farnell was the favourite and had the supporters that eventually moved over to supporting Hatton so you can imagine the atmosphere. Farnell comes to the ring pumped up while Takaloo is very relaxed. Farnell was the massive, unbeaten favourite.

The bell rings. Farnell recieves a one minute hiding and the fight is over.

It was a very exciting fight and fair play to Farnell who showed heart to try to keep fighting on. I really liked Takaloo, shame he didn't have that extra bit of class to get to world level.

    From fightnews.com that night

    Excerpt from Fightnews.com:

In the upset of the night Takaloo, of Iranian origin stopped previously unbeaten prospect Anthony Farnell, (WBO#1 ranked) in a major shock. Takaloo had a 16-2 record with 11 KO's and was considered a major underdog in Farnell's hometown. Indeed Farnell was 2-5 to win his first World Title. Takaloo attacked from the bell, as Farnell seemed to tuck up behind a tight guard. Farnell had expected a long 12 round fight and wanted to conserve initial energy in a humid environment. However, Takaloo gained confidence as he hurled right hooks into Farnell's body with little coming back in return. After around 1:40 of the first Farnell moved forward with a jab and ducked his head down as he missed- Takaloo responded with a vicious right uppercut that Farnell didn't see and dropped him in the corner. Farnell struggled to make the count and looked shaky but referee Dave Parris let him continue. Takaloo seized his chance and waded in with 9 unanswered punches that forced Parris to stop the bout after 2:03 of the first.

 yeah that's what annoyed me with Nicky Cook before the Martinez fight. Wearing Utd stuff...

TBH even though Tak vs Arnie was for WBU title and we  at it being called a world title fight. It was a very intriguing match up and one of the better level WBU title fights of last decade in terms of competitive fight/good level fighters.

i remember that too.. and farnell coming out with the united jersey pumping himself up.

shame the fighters in that division didnt fight each other much at the time

we had steve roberts, takaloo, alexander, farnell, lockett and richard williams.

i think richard williams was the best of the bunch but didnt get a chance to prove it

i don't think either of those fighters were world class but williams had the potential to compete at world level and did perform very well vs sergio martinez, even dropping him.. which looks a very good performance now

Williams was by far the best of the bunch. Even Buzzed Martinez in one of the fights. He was just managed a bit poorly. Putting him in with a guy like Sergio at that time was poor in hindsight (wonderful thing ain't it). He could of at least challenged for a world title but wasn't meant to be.

Met him once as a shy 12 year old and he was a class act. Got an Autograph of his here somewhere. He's a local boy done good and still continues to do good in Southwark i believe with the youths.

The atmosphere was electric I didn't think nothing could stop me that night, I remember walking to the ring and the noise was deafening I looked to my side there was a huge guy with a big gold chain round his neck shouting Arnie Arnie he had tears coming down his face that got me started, we r the champions music blasting, Roy Keans football top on I started singing myself I lost complete control of my emotions, when I got in the ring I was to stiff and that's that really, I was devastated at the time but now I can tell my guys about my experiences and how to react when the pressure is on and so on learn from ur own experience as they say. :TU:

Hope u liked that reply Lirva u hater

They had hindsight after the 1st fight and still, for whatever reason, put him in with him again at full notice... :nut
