But he'd still have to make the weight by dehydrating his body.

The more you dehydrate/rehydrate the greater impact it has on your body

Regardless. When both fighters stepped into the ring, Pac was facing a full fledge MW. Plus, even if the catchweight was 150...Its still within MW limits.

But you're missing the point. If he is naturally 165, he'd normally dehydrate 11lbs to make 154, however he has to now dehydrate 15lbs to make 150.

Even if he always rehydrates around 15lbs, without the catch he'd have come in unofficially at 169. And the only way to get that is to diet and lose muscle mass as he is already quite lean.

Either way it's going to have some impact.

If a fighter has to lose 10-15lbs in order to make weight, they are in the wrong weight division. That's another topic though.

I understand what you're saying, but at the end of the day, Pac did fight a MW fighter. Lets not forget that Marg had been a WW for the majority of his career. Did it have an impact on him by making 150?....sure as it does to many fighters who dry out to fight in divisions they dont belong at.

But back to the original post, they were fighting for a 154lb belt. The catchweight disadvantages Margarito who should be able to come at any weight of his choosing as long as its in the 154lb limit. If Pacquiao cannot make the weight then it doesn't make sense to challenge for it by imposing unnessary stipulations, no more than it'd make sense for him to challenge Klitshko for the heavyweight belt as long as he had one hand tied behind his back.

Catchweights are fine if they are not for belts. But as I previously posted, the catchweight has no outcome on the fight - Pacquiao dominates again and again.

He would have kept more muscle for the fight. I think the outcome would be the same, but maybe he could have won maybe one more round

It doesnt matter. If your fighting for a 154 title you fight at the weight limit. Margo could have weighed 165 if he came in at 54 too, but he would have been a lot healthier. Its enough with the catchweight bull****, Manny doesnt need that kind of advantage.

Manny's first loss was a fight at a catch weight, and he weighed 1lb over the limit
