Come on now, Merchant has never backed down from interviews. I think after getting such a bad beat down, the glove controversy seems mute for this fight.
It casts a pall on his past successes, particularly "last July", a fight the broadcast team alluded to many times throughout the evening. When else are you going to get the guy in that vulnerable a position? Right there, on the spot, in front of thousands, just after the news is broken and he and his entourage haven't had time to cook up any soundbytes or excuses, physically and emotionally drained and broken...perfect time and place to put the hot lamp on him and make him squirm.
Once again, the boxing commision as well as a trainer from the opponents team is present at the hand wrapping. I would imagine they are both trained to spot irregularities (such as Mosley's team)...Since none were reported I assume the tape job to be legit untill proven otherwise. If Cotto or other teams were negligent in protecting their fighters, by failing to perform their jobs...well there is no one to blame but themselves!
I was hoping Merchant will say something like.... "You were called the most feared man on the planet, what happened?"
AM answering: "Well, they took the plaster out of my glove and that was the end of the Tijuana windmil!"
