that's the thing that alot of people are not considering. everyone thinks that marg is just going to walk thru cotto. but cotto is a very intelligent fighter. he has proven it over and over again. however, margo has not proven he has a plan b,c, or d, etc....
Margo will come out smoking and will continue the pace until he knocks Cotto out or the end of the 12th round. I don't think Cotto will last the 12 rounds, but if he does he will lose a close decision. Margo's workrate will be too much! Pretty easy fight to call!
HMMM i have no idea. I dont see it being an easy fight for either fighter. Both will take alot of punishment. I will say Cotto by UD. Maybe SD if Cotto stands and trades more.
Well I'll tell you what his A plan should be. Margo needs to come straight at Cotto but use that height advantage of his and keep firing at Miguel from long range... because with Cotto's shorter arms he would have the advantage in close... and I don't think backing up and boxing will be to Miguel's advantage in this fight. Staying at the outside of Margo's longer arms would be a mistake for him IMO. Cotto should try and keep the fight on the inside while Margo should keep his distance at all times if he can/
People tend to lower their punches output when they fight Cotto. HHHmmmmmmmm I don't know why??????? LOL
If Margo can take Cotto's punches, then i see Margo winning this due to work rate. If not, then he will be on the defensive and Cotto will know what to do.
Margo's workrate can be as much a liability than it can be an asset against skilled boxers who find the opening. Margarito's movements have more amplitude than the typical WW plus he's often wide. Moreover, he tends to be squared up whenever his opponent moves laterally (see the Williams fight). Given that he throws a lot, he's often open, especially against a moving target. Key to beating Margarito is to move laterally and vary the angles of attack, which is what Cotto will do. Easy fight to call, indeed, except you have it backwards.
He might not have a plan b, c or d but he's got one hell of a plan A. Should be a good one. IMO Cotto's speed and skills will prove the difference in this fight. I know that sounds as stupid as a Floyd Boy's analysis of why PBF beats all styles but its how I feel. One of the above posters said it would be best for Cotto to keep the fight in close and that it would be bad to keep it at a distance. I disagree. Cotto can fight margo two ways in close and at a distance. The only time it'll be a problem is if he gets caught in the mid range. His skills are such that he has the ability to box him from the out side a la Quintana v Williams and then take it to the inside for a bit. He will have to do both to win this fight. He cannot stay in Margo's grill all night because the pace required will be too much for him. So he will have to mix inside boxing with outside countering and moving when he wants a break. IMO he wins a comfortable UD and its an easier fight then Shane or Jab.
