When I heard Pudz was going to compete in MMA, I thought the difference in strength between him and his hw opponents would be massive... but it isn't.

Don't get me wrong, I never ever thought that Pudz would be a powerpuncher, because (a) he doesn't know how to punch, and (b) having huge slabs of muscle for biceps is not conducive to speed and power, but I definitely thought he would be able to manhandle people the way that Lesnar did to Herring and Couture and Mir, before he started going in against fellow physical phenoms like Carwin and Cain.

But Pudz doesn't seem to any stronger than guys like Thompson and Sylvia, even at the start of fights before he gasses. Well, maybe he is a bit stronger, but he definitely doesn't seem to be able to toss them about with the ease I suspected he would.

I really don't think a bodybuilder will ever transition to MMA with any real success.

 

He is much much stronger but he has no technique which will always out do strenght! The difference with lesnar is he is a highly skilled wrestler!

Not only that, Marlowe, but "china chin" Thompson at one point dropped his hands and allowed Pudz free reign at his v' china

 

It all comes down to balance and being able to channel that strength efficiently. if they stood there dead still and let him pick them up he could throw them into the seventh row.

 

The Pudzianowski Wikipedia page, [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariusz_Pudzianowski[/ame], states that Pudzianowski had 7 years boxing; beginning when he was 15. Wikipedia does not go into much detail regarding his time as a boxer, but it's obvious that he wasn't exceptional at it. Even if he were, it has been proven that boxing skill isn't a stand alone skill in mma.

Pudzianowski is an exceptionally strong man with little to no fighting skills. Almost every form of hand to hand combat is designed to use technique and leverage to defeat stronger opponents. He fights like he is trying to win with strength alone. Pudzianowski versus any seasoned mma fighter is an infomercial for the ultimate meathead bully versus an educated fighter.

I give Pudzianowski credit for trying. I'm sure he did better against Thompson than I would have.

 

Mariusz is a joke. Thompson was just asking to be ktfo. You could tell one solid shot would have dropped him, yet the muscleman failed miserably.

Don't let these other posters get you down. Everyone is wanting to jump on you for wondering something that is logical without giving you any explanation.

An arm punch, even with a contracted bicep, from Pudzianowski probably has a lot of force. Pudzianowski is often flailing away, and not landing anything flush. It does not matter how much power is on a punch if it doesn't land cleanly.

Pudzianowski may never become Tysonesque, but I'm sure any solid shot from him is nothing short of bone jarring.

 

Pudzianowski is small for a strongman competitor, and he's by no means the strongest. He used to compete in the "world strongest man", which is more repetitions, speed and technique the other competitions like Fortissimus and IFSA. Over in those competitions the guys are much bigger. Pudzianowski is 6foot1 and about 270lbs at his most steroidest I think vs Zydrunas Savickas at 6foot3 376lbs and Brian Shaw at 6foot8 and 440lbs. Most people thought if the big guys would cross over, they'd beat Pudzianowski easy and it was mostly proven right. Pudzianowski sucked at the Arnold Classic, and he lost to Phil Pfister at the world strongest man, and Phil hadn't been doing too well at the other side. I think IFSA and Fortissimes stopped business, and therefor Pudzianowski had to compete with the big guys, and he just doesn't stand a change. So all this babble about him going into MMA to find a new challenge because he ruled the strongman world is just wrong. He had to leave because he couldn't win, or he would die eating steroids trying.

It would be more interresting, allthough not that interesting, to see someone naturally insanely big and strong like Brian Shaw compete in MMA. Not someone smaller and with a more bodybuilding, big bicep type physic like Pudz.

As far as punching power goes, isn't kinetic engery half mass times velocity to the second power. So it's mainly speed, and Pudz is slower than molasses in wintertime. And weight.. he punches with his arms, even if they're big, they're not gonna bring the same mass as someone who punches wish his whole body and get's leverage all the way from the floor.

 

im sure i heard on one of the strongest man intros that pudz can actually run the 100 metres somewhere in the high 11's.
that cant be right surely?? gotta be just a tactic for hyping him up a bit?

 

If you can't crack Thompson's wet toilet paper chin with free shots at it you really have no business in the fight game/
