Napoles knocks him out with a well-placed shot in about 30 seconds.

By the same token, I can imagine Jose getting squashed to death under an Atlas stone.

p4p a great win but in the end, napoles was basically a junior welter and a pretty small welter. he really had no business at 160 and simply lacked the physicality to move up in weight

But you'd be surprised at how many in the sport were really pumped up for Napoles..most of the boxing magazines at the time were touting Jose's chances big time..all the while, like they still do today..underestimating Monzon. Many blow the Monzon win away, calling Jose too small, etc., but it must be remembered that Monzon didn't come out blowing fire and brimstone in trying to destroy the smaller man, rather, he was very "laid back" and deliberate..and I don't think he went all out to nail his man for the ko...only in the 6th and final round did he begin to level some serious right hands on Napoles ...it was called a "unhurried and majestic performance" by a couple of different magazines at the time.

Oh yeah, and Napoles trainer for this fight, Angelo Dundee, swore that Napoles would make Monzon look like he was standing still..he'd outclass him. Afterwards Dundee praised Monzon as a "super champion".
