Wilder was a better boxer before Breland joined the team. Every medal he won as an amateur came via decision.

Basically, it would be like if Lennox Lewis stayed with Pepe Correa until he was 35, the Correa who told Lewis just before the second round of the McCall fight "Just go knock him out." Lewis began to regress under Correa and depend more on power. Lennox just lost to McCall when he was 29 and then bounced Correa, and Wilder didn't lose to Fury until he was in his mid 30s.

People seem to be both OUTRAGED Wilder fired Breland and at the same time bashing Wilder for not having boxing skills ... which was Breland's sole job. Breland's SOLE job.

And it's not like Wilder fought all the time or Breland had a whole stable of fighters at a busy gym he had to teach and he didn't have time. He trained Wilder. Who else?

Breland collected millions in checks over a decade and didn't do his job.

The fact that Wilder was talented enough to hold the title for five years and make 11 title defenses, actually come within one point on one card of decisioning Fury, and not lose until he was 35 ... and people don't think he's a good boxer at all ... says how talented Wilder is and how bad his trainer was.

Because you can go thru a decade of posts on this board and nobody was starting thread after thread about how amazing a trainer Mark Breland was.

Again, good riddance.

 

He dropped Fury twice and came within one point of beating Fury. You better hope he doesn't get even a little better.

That is the ONLY reason we aren't seeing Wilder-Fury III. They've even gone to mediation, and that's the reason Fury gives. Wilder insulted him.
