Watching it now, how bad do you have to be to lose rounds against a guy the promoter met in the pub 2 hours earlier? atsch DeMori was awful against Pasi but this is arguably even worse.
Is De Mori the worst ranked heavyweight ever? Even the version of Rahman that turned up against Povetkin would destroy him. As a UK fan, if DeMori were to fight our weaker HWs like Skelton, McDermott, Dallas, he would get destroyed. And we saw what David Price did to the above fighters.
I've never said I hate him. Just have zero respect for what he does. He did have two supporters here at one stage. Then one, and now it appears none.
People have to find something they admire or relate to in a fighter to become a fan. Australian boxing fans simply didn't relate to Mark de Mori, his padded record, or his refusal to fight Aussie opponents, and it's probably the major reason he has now permanently left the country.
I agree with this comment and it is because our HWs do actually generate a lot of interest. However, the momentum of their careers (and nuthuggers) wanes sharply due to; a) inactive periods b) lack of top domestic contests. (Someone listed the names of the Brits who have fought and our pool is not that deep anyway). It appears to fans that if these guys fight, we'll know who is best and there will be no more fights to promote. The Queensland state title seems to be contested more often in this weight division and perhaps it's due to the states lax rules. c)the simple fact they are not as good as we would like them to be. Browne has laid out a plan of fight progression that he would like to have and that is why everyone is watching him, this Toney fight just seems to be a slight deviation from the script. I hope it pays off but if Toney is a shell, I don't think it will. Browne will hopefully be the guy who ends up calling out every Aus HW and then we will know who is in the mix.
404th ranked Pasi showed some reasonable skills till he retired injured. Unbelievably 584th ranked 42 yr old 5 fight veteran Bekim Pagga looked the better fighter until he ran out of gas. The Jerrys will have to plumb the depths to come up with someone who makes DeMori look half decent. His 78th world ranking would appear to be around 400 spots too high. :-lol:
de Mori may have logged two wins since he's been in Germany, but he has fought 6 extremely ordinary rounds so far against token opposition.
