I contacted Mark yesterday and he expressed potential interest in doing an interview for ESB. I was hoping to do it after his next opponent is announced in the coming week or so. Just making sure someone here hasn't already made arrangements with him to do one, and also to get some help with potential questions. Things I want to ask in the interview: 1. How do you stay motivated with such long lay offs and fighters pulling out/failing blood tests just before fight night? 2. Do you still do the majority of training yourself If yes, would you consider getting a trainer in? Do you think it is a style that suits you? 3. What is the difference between the Mark De Mori of now as opposed to the one that was stopped by John Wyborn in one round? 4. Recently you announced that you will be fighting ___________. What can you tell us about him and what do you expect from him in the ring? 5. You have re-signed with Don King. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years under his promotion? 6. Don King is one of the most colourful characters is boxing history. From an Australian's point of view, how do you view him? Is he a guy that can take you all the way to a HW title fight? 7. Outside of your own fights, are you a die hard boxing fan and do you watch alot of fights? What fights would you most like to see made and who are you favourite fighters currently? 8. When you were waiting around and not getting fights did you ever consider MMA, or is boxing where your heart will always be? 9. Lastly, is Perth where you want to be? Or would you consider a move to the states for better sparring and exposure? What do you guys think? Anything else I could add?
apparently it was a combination of personal issues, in experience and taking the fight on short notice... he also said Wyborn was much better than his record suggested. When he describes the knock out he says he remembers NOTHING until midday the next day
Ok questions.... i have more! 10. Mark are you finished with the domestic scene or is there another Aussie you would like to fight before you concentrate internationally again? 11. For a heavyweight you are still relatively young. Most guys in the division fight until they are late thirties, and in the case of Vitali and Evander, in to their fourties. What is the secret to longevity in the ring in the HW division? Is it being a gym rat like Hopkins or is it something more?
Without being too critical, I'd ask Mark when he's going to have a fight. It has been over two years now and counting.
no worries mate... just trying to break in to the boxing journalism world and thought this would be a good start :good
Mark, you seem very reluctant to fight any Australian heavyweights. Wouldn't it have helped your career if you could have " Dominated " the local scene ? Is your association with Don King just a way of avoiding these fights so that Aussie boxing fans don't get to see where you fit in against domestic heavies ? Are you likely to be signing to fight the likes of Kirby, Edwards, Leapai, Meehan or Browne any time in the near future ? Or can we expect another dud opponent dredged up from overseas in a meaningless match up ? John Wyborn tested himself against allcomers in Australia at various weights. Sometimes it's hard not to be a sceptic.
if he can get some of these cancelled fights to actually happen, he doesn't need to fight the oz heavys. just look good in winning, and he will make good money over in yanky land. just look at tupou. he had to look pretty impressive in his most recent fight to prove something, and in actually doing so he will get good fights now if he wants. there r no set rules on how to get to the top. but yes there r some good match-ups here in oz for him.
Before he knows it his time will be up. I don't know what or who he's waiting for. Last time I checked fighters fight!
