Isn't Hurt coming back off an injury that's why they're looking for an easy defence. ?
Still, wellborn is out of his depth here, his style gives him very little to no chance with a big chance of getting ktfo.
Langford would probably last longer in there

 

I think he has been Injured. There is easy and there is easy. Welborn must be going back down in weight, he looked better up at MW.

 

Is this at 154 or 160?

Welborn carries no threat at 154, I can understand him taking the opportunity but he’s getting stopped at 154.

 

I can't really understand this as a fight. Welborn has had a decent run but he's never been anywhere near world level. He's game but that's it. Its the type of fight Hurd ends it when he wants... I know he's probably getting some OK money but I think id have fought Heffron and hoped to get the win there. I hope the pay day is worth it

 

It has probably came down to making a decision on where the best money for a loss on his record? Him and his team are maybe not that confident on beating Heffron for a small purse so have took the high risk/high reward option of fighting Hurd.

But lets be honest what has Welborn done to warrant even being close to a world title shot?

 

If your Welborn it makes perfect sense though. World title shot, decent purse for him and a loss against a good world champion doesn't exactly set him back. He's been operating on the domestic scene and he will be able to pick up decent fights again there without a problem.

 

Exactly, it's a no brainer. This is likely the only time he'll fight for a world title - he'd be stupid not to take it. I agree it's undeserved, but what kind of boxer turns down a once in a lifetime shot?

 

It does when you get stopped in brutal fashion.

I agree. I think he would be stopped of Hurd even if Hurd went to 160. So many levels between them. Can't blame Welborn, take my hat of him as its realising his big chance and so he should. I just feel it will end very badly for him, hope I am wrong.

 

Both very good points Davie. Even in defeat his record will suggest to some he is at world level when we all know he certainly is not. We're as in defeat as long as its not too bad he can come back to British level (his level). I am torn as love to see British fighters get a big fight but on other hand not nice knowing that fighter will be a lamb going to the slaughter.

 

I agree he’ll probably get a savage beating but there’s always that small chance that Hurd could suffer a bad injury and before you know it welborn is getting his hand raised, slim chance but I think it’s worth the risk too realise your dream of becoming a world champion
