I asked fellow Sherdog S&P'er Brad Morris of Bodog fight about his training partner Mark Hunt, and got this reply: http://www.sherdog.net/forums/showpost.php?p=20568224&postcount=53 Apparently Mark has been conditionging hard with Brad and is under 265 right now for the UFC deal Dana wanted to do.:good
Doutbtful he'll achieve much success in the wrestler dominated UFC. In Pride he got submitted by anyone with a decent groundgame. I guess he could be pretty exciting but really don't know what he could achieve.
Mark Hunt isn't about winning the title. What he brings is excitement. Imagine the possibilities of Hunt-Hardonk, Hunt-Cro Cop III, Hunt-Kongo. Stand up wars with some technical accumen shown, and Hunt eating shots that would make Cabbage fans cringe and laughing. If there is one thing that is killing the UFC HW division it's lack of exciting fights. The division was weak before, but they had some exciting fights that made people happy to watch. Now they don't have either.
**** Hunt-CC II, it's all about Hunt-ALEXANDER! Hell, Hunt-Liddell would be a great fight, even if it is a weight mismatch.
Hunt is very useful in the UFC. He offers entertainment and although I can not see him getting too close to the title he can offer up some good fights. A nice stepping stone for people to have a good old tear up with.
What you blabbering on about? Hunt is a great striker with a very underrated ground game. Fedor had him in submmision that he rolled out of and nearly subbed Fedor himself before he lost via Kimura. His only been subbed by some of the BEST guys in MMA. Barnett one of the top shoot wrestlers in the world. Fedor (no explanation needed) and Yoshida who`s a world class Judoka and was his 1st MMA bout. Not bad for a guy who came from the K1. Hunt will make noise you best believe it. If he can get his weight down i believe his striking will favor him much more in a cage and also bearing in mind the weakness of the current heavy division.
Hunt has no ground game. Fedor should've just broken Hunt's arm which he obviously just didn't crank and lost it because of it. Hunt was on top of Fedor for like half an hour and all he could do is the worse attempt at keylock I've seen. Keylocks are not easy to finish in the first place and with Hunt's skills against Fedors it wasn't gona happen thats why Fedor wasn't even sweating it. What Hunt could do at ground game is go into northsouth position and submit someone with his fat el grande on someones face...
I can't wait to see the UFC debut of the atomic buttdrop. Hopefully the athletic comission doesn't have rules prohibiting butt dropping to a downed opponent.
There isn't a stand up fighter in UFC that can out strike Hunt. If hunt can get a ground game like Liddel I think he would have a chance to get the belt.
