Donaire's opposition was even worse mind you.

Who knows how he would go in a gruelling fight against a real talent that was more natural to those weights.Punch resistance and stamina could let him down.

Johnson is the better talent imo, albeit not exactly having faced a murderers row himself.

Remember when most people thought Mijares was more impressive than Donaire below Bantam:yep I thought Mijares was being overhyped myself and that they had about equal potential, but being honest neither caught the eye as a boxer-puncher in the way Johnson did for me.

I think Donaire's lack of versatility and stiffness would seriously hamper him against Johnson. It's possible he could now improve in that respect having been kalule'd and work on some thing technically, but that is the fighter he was here.

size, power and good(but massively overstated) speed would make him an interesting fight for a lot of Fly's and Super-Fly's though he's by no means a great fighter there.

IDK where de confidence in de claim that Marc Johnson's opposition was better than Donaire's, as weak as it was.
Donaire did KO Darchiniyan, whom was probably drained then.

Darchinyan was every bit as good Mark Johnson in those weight classes. I don't know what the **** you're prattling on about, honesty.

A very interesting match up. I think Donaire would end up counter KOing Too Sharp during his offensive outbursts (where he ironically wasn't the most sharp). However, before then it would be a grind for Nonito as he struggled and waited to adjust to, and set, Johnson's rhythm.

Too Sharp could beat Donaire, but he'd have to stay disciplined and really fight a technically smart fight. He had more tools at his disposal than Donaire.

The problem is, Johnson really had an offensive style and loved to trade/fight, and if he trades with Donaire, it's not gonna end well for him.

I wanna pick Johnson, but my head says that Donaire knocks Too Sharp out late while behind on the cards.

I agree, X. I think Too Sharp is more talented (and it's not one of those maybe he might be kinda things, I have no doubt), but I think his style plays to Donaire's strengths. Not saying he can't win, but I don't think it's likely given the styles.

@Tin_Ribs made a good post a while back about Donaire, and I think it may apply here. His style is best suited to more stand up boxer-punchers, whose rhythm he could get down and time with his big left. Too Sharp's rhythm wasn't the easiest to nail down (few did, and Marquez took ages to do so vs an aging Johnson) but I imagine if he's constantly in Donaire's space and range and trading with him, he'll be eating a good few counters.

I think a fight with Hasegawa would have ended similarly, as in, Donaire stops him with a counter while down on points.

Johnson in the late 90s should be able to turn the trick. Younger Johnson may well get taken out.
