Mark Magsayo is nothing special

Yep. One armed. He didnt use his right arm, not even a little bit, for the last 9 rounds.

His shoulder more than likely made a huge difference. Btw, Russell is better. He simply doesn't fight enough.

 

No need to bash Russell. This post was about his opponent.
Russell was injured while always being inactive. There's nothing wrong with thinking a fighter is "nothing special." Weak champions do exist.

 

Russell used his high ring IQ to hold Magsayo at bay. That's partially Magsayo's fault and partially Freddie Roach's fault. Roach should have told him to go on the attack from the fourth round on. Magsayo fought no differently post-obvious injury than he did pre-obvious jury.

Magsayo was losing to Ceja before the late stoppage and struggled with a one armed Russell. He will need to improve his skills to hold the title for any significant length of time.

 

Even though I was disappointed in Russel coming in the fight injured, I am kind of relieved to have a new champion. We may get some fights now that Russel is dethroned. Magsayo has a solid foundation and could become an excellent champion. However, he ain't no Pac.

Gary Russell just needs to go up in weight and call it a day.

 

his idol had workrate for days... Mark didnt even have that vs a one armed fighter with 2 years worth of ring rust and without a trainer.

 

so we're going to create threads about how mundane a fighter is...but credit the fighter that he beat.

As I said, if his opponent is 'nothing special' then nor is Gary Russell Jr. Albeit, worse than the fighter that is 'nothing special.

 

Magsayo was special enough to dethrone Russell.

 

It did make a huge difference. For four rounds Magsayo was lighting him up and looked to possibly be stopping him.

That didn't happen.

 

Magsayo is nothing special. He got lucky he fought a one armed fighter and not a two armed fighter. With that said I'm glad Gary has been humbled because he was doing the division a dis-service by fighting so little.

 

I thought he was timing and countering Russell well in the early rounds then when he realised he was up against a one armed opponent it just seemed like it threw him off and he didnt really know what to do. He probably trained a lot on countering Russell's jab then when Russell couldnt throw any jabs Magsayo seemed confused.

 

Teofimo Lopez isn't anything special either.
