Read today that former IBF world champ Mark Prince will be making a come back after 14 years away from the ring - returning as a Cruiserweight. In 20 fights he only ever lost to Michalczewski who at the time was undefeated and in his pomp. Even in defeat, he put up a good showing. After the loss, he knocked out his next opponent in 1 round then jacked it in - finishing up as 19-1. As many may remember, a lot of his time in retirement has been spent campaigning against knife crime as he lost his young son to a stabbing incident. Think he actually appeared on ringside a year or so ago explaining some of his story. What are the opinions on this, would love to see him achieve something once more in the sport given his background story although at 43/44 time isn't exactly on his side.
I remember him in the 90's was a good boxer in great shape, I don't think he was the IBF champ think he fought for the WBO against Mickalowski But he should not have packed it in when he did, but there were some amazing light-heavies about then. think at his age now he will find it hard to come back but i wish him all the luck in the world hope he makes some decent money, always came across as a decent guy.
Just checked - you're right, he only ever challenged for the WBO... god knows where I got the idea from that he held the IBF version, always thought he held a world title haha! As you say though, he always came to fight in good shape and gave a good account of himself.. he could have achieved more had he stayed in the game
Yeah he always came to fight and in terrific shape. hope he just has a few fight for the money and nostalgia for his own personal reasons, as said before I wish him well, top bloke..
Bit chinny, but at a level short of world class had power and gave good value for money... 15 years ago!
Good luck to him - he's done a lot of good work on gangs and knife and gun crime since his son was murdered.
Good fighter, big, took a chance against the exceptional DM and was blown away after a decent start. Good fight to watch, highlight reel KO. :good That fight shows what DM was made of. They did not call him Tiger for nothing. DM versus Kovalev would have been awesome.
