Hey guys, I was totally unaware of this, but former 168 lbs. champ Markus Beyer passed away in December 2018. RIP Any thoughts on his career? One thing I admired about Beyer was that after a questionable DQ over Danny Green he rematched Green and beat him legitimately in the rematch.
To be honest, I don't know a lot about Beyer at all, although I did know he passed away. However, I think every boxer worth their salt deserves to be remembered in some form. RIP.
The Eric Lucas fight. Lucas shot himself in the foot by showing up to Germany at the last minute. He was jet lagged but clearly won the first seven rounds iirc. Then he pooped out and lost the next five, but it still should have been a clear UD for Lucas. The first Danny Green fight was cited as friendly officiating for Beyer. But the fact was, Green did headbutt him and did open him up. Stopppages on cuts are always weird when headbutts are involved, especially when there is a hot debate over whether the headbutts were intentional or not. I think the fact that Green was popular and an effective lobbyist for his own interests soured sentiment against Beyer. Plus, the fact that Green had deposited Beyer on the deck twice made people believe that the officials rescued Beyer when it was convinient.
