The bored Marlon Starling ...having cleaned up the Welterweight division ...moved up in Spring 1990 to fight a Middleweight World Champion....without any warm ups he jumped 2 divisions.

I had the Michael Nunn fight a lot closer than the scorecards....in fact..i had it for Nunn by just a round.

It was a fight where it was clear both fighters had a lot of respect and time for each other personally. Both were high class technicians and they often fought this way.But the fight lacked any real walk outside the comfort zone.

What happens if instead Starling had taken on the prickly and accomplished boxer Mike McCallum for the WBA title?

Or the fast improving wild brawling Brit Nigel Benn for the WBO bauble?

Or Herol Graham /Julian Jackson for the vacant WBC belt PS : Herol and Julian in seperate matches not both at once!

Benn would've bashed him behind those elbows to the body, brutalized him.

Graham would've boxed circles around him for five rounds.

I think he does really well against McCallum and Jackson.

Graham, Jackson and McCallum were former 154lbers, so not as big for Starling as Benn or Nunn, remember.
