This is not unlike the match someone proposed between Starling and Harold Weston. Just like I picked Weston over Starling I pick Graham over Starling. These styles are all wrong for Marlon. Marlon was one of the best counter-punchers going and really would shine against a puncher. But boxers could befuddle him in a dull fight.
Would be a great fight I think. Both are too tough to be hurt by the other man, which should mean they take quite a few risks to outpoint each other. Graham by a point or 2 in an entertaining skillfest.
I think weston was quite similar in style to Starling himself.either pure counterpunching from a fairly flat footed\ring centre pivoting or inside position, or aggressive technical pressure counterpunching.
Its not that they looked that similar in terms of technical aesthetics and rhythym but the bsic approach was much the same imo.Weston didn't really try and outjab fighters or pick them off like a pure boxer, he was more like a fairly aggressive boxer-puncher by mindset that just happened not to hit that hard, so had to rely on finesse.I think he would end up in an infight at ring centre with Starling actually. Not saying he couldn't win mind you.He was a fine fighter technically and busier. Brown actually boxed on the move for a lot of his bout with Marlon btw. That was before Brown became a plodding toiler. I think Starling was just too in love with his defensive skills. He was a bitter egomaniac and could be lulled into just coasting and mocking the opposition with shows of defensive ability.IF fighters tried to be cute with him and didn't take risks he could be lulled into a laid back groove.
I agree. I envision Starling dicking around sooner or later, while Graham continues to win rounds in a steady, unspectacular fashion.
