I scored it when I watched it live, and never watched it again. I scored it 8-4 for Starling, as I recall.

The powers that be were so very desperate to make a star of Breland.

Worth a watch, but nothing amazing. Brown is undefeated, but I don't think he looked much different than he did with more experience.

My point exactly, and the scorecards first timer ound were pathetic. I had Breland up by a point after ten owing to the point Marlon was deducted.

How highly would you guys rate Starling's defensive skills? There wasn't no real magic behind it (like Locche, Benitez, Whitaker etc), but it was pretty ****ing effective.

What kinda **** is this? There was no "magic" behind the defense of "The Magic Man"?

Nah, it doesn't work like that.
If you're hyped and favoured to those kind of proportions (as Breland was) you carry a lot of favouritism over, even when you get exposed.
Breland's just one example. There are some even more famous ones.

Despite my question marks I wasn't asking the question. But thanks for reminding me ;-)

Maybe if he threw a few more 'pull counters' he'd be more revered?

He slipped as well, it's just that everyone remembers the earmuffs. He was as hard to hit as any defensive technician I've ever seen, at mid-range or in close.

Also, Starling was rarely out of punching range. He rarely took a backwards step. Curry (2nd fight) is pretty much the only guy who consistently got to Starling as far as I can see. And even then he only really got an extended bursts going in the last round, where he teed off on Moochy.

Despite my answering your "question", it wasn't really intended for you. Just another of my general undirected rants about the absurd nature of the business. :thumbsup

Jeez, get off my nuts you ***gits. I just worded my question like a dyslexic twat.

But you guys are right. I just feel that because his defence isn't as eye-catching as some other great fighters, he tends to get a little under-rated.

Also, any ideas where I can get my grubby little mitts on the Simon Brown fight?

I was amazed how bad Breland looked in this fight. At point he has Starling on the ropes and he is throwing these slapping body punches to Starling's body. Starling was the guy who exposed Breland and after that Breland never really was that good.

Starlings work throughout the second half(apart from a round where he had Breland hurt - might have been the eightj) was abysmal and just like their first fight,Breland was winning rounds sorely based on workrate.

Say what you want about Breland and his pawing jab,but stinker Starling never look good against him.

Brelands workrate wasn't there either though. Just pawed out a jab and clinched.

Either way, is a draw feasible? I agree Starlings dropped his workrate.....again.

He looked good in the first fight, he annihilated him.

I reckon so.Unfortunately I don't have access to any of my scorecards anymore due to having to re-load my laptop recently, but I don't recall giving Starling more than one round in the last six rounds.

A nice knockout doesn't equate to an impressive performance - if anything,it was a sloppy performance from Starling with alot of the rough-house,smothing tactics employed by him.
