Starling is the naturally bigger man and highly skilled at 147 pounds....... I'll take "Moochie" over Pernell Whitaker at welterweight by a decision...... Word...

This is a tough fight to pick. Pernell is the lighter puncher, but he is more offensive minded. Starling had longer arms and a very good jab. Both had great defense. I really don't know who would win, but if I had a gun to my head, I would say Marlon by decision.

I love Marlon Starling, but I think Whitaker was a little to slick and his south paw style might have screwed up Marlon a bit. he was also a tad more consistent than Starling who sometimes tended to blow hot and cold. Whitaker's robbery draw against Chavez is arguably better than anything Starling ever did even at welterweight.

Marlon should win this by UD, but knowing him, he'll try that clowning bit he did in the first Curry fight.Pernell by UD over 12.

I love both fighters but I think Pea wins this SD. Shoot! I can't find a Starling career set anywhere*sigh* I have Pea's I wish I had Starling's as I haven't seen the Curry fights and I really want to rewatch both Breland fights.

Pernell's jab is key in a matchup between defensive fighters, which is why I think he'd fare more than well against any of the greats of this style throughout history.
