I may be alone here, but I think the second Curry-Starling fight was close. I watched it some years ago and didn't score it but felt Curry had won by a somewhat comfortable margin in a competitive fight. Having re-watched it again recently and this time scoring it, I surprisingly had Curry taking it bya solitary point: 144-143.

Perhaps the feeling that Curry won comfortably has been seared into people's memories through the great last round Curry fought (the most dominant of the fight) to snatch it away from Starling. Or perhaps I was just giving Starling the benefit of the doubt too much in all the close rounds in the first 3rd of the fight, which gave me the close score I had. Don't know...

But in light of the score I had, I'm starting to wonder whether a later Starling may have even beat that Curry (the peak Curry). Starling did improve somewhat I felt, getting stronger as he matured.

How did other people score the Starling-Curry rematch? Was i alone in thinking just about every round was close?

Didn't leave a mark at 147? 25 straight wins against the best of his day including 2 vs Starling, 7 defenses including an overwhelming unification bout victory is a reasonable record for mine. He fell short of our expectations but to say he didn't leave a mark, well.....

I don't think Starling got any better actually.

Prominent memory tells me the mags scored it 144-142 Curry, so your scoring is excellent. Tho close they still commented he was definitely the superior man.

Starling IMO is an absolutely superb fighter. No Curry and he dominates the era.

Good to know about the scorecard :good

I'm not sure Curry would be able to overwhelm a later Starling like he did in their rematch. Maybe he would...

JT, being an 80's man, perhaps you could tell me about the first Pedro Vilella fight? Was the decision legit? Was there a reason/excuse for Starling losing?

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn hahaha, i will have to do a bit of scouring. I know i have it somewhere but it will be hard to find. Dod or MDWC might give the goods in the meantime, but from tomorrow on i will keep the eyes peeled.

I'm already thinking of it as a Chandler - Muniz thing.

He had the talent to be a special fighter he just didn't reach that level.

i think this was the fight where brown momentarily turns southpaw and starling just gives him the look as if it to say don't try and pull that **** with me,brown quickly reverts back to orthodox(at least that was marlons version).

It would make sense if he underestimated him.

Curry staggered Starling bad in the last round of there rematch. There first bout could have been a draw but in the rematch Cuirry won by 3/4 rounds.
