Do u think that d reason 2 Molinares' KO of Starling was d bell / time in d round ? Did d outcome of this fight (changing it 2 NC and stripping him of his title) cause Molinares' depression ? I think it was a coincidence and not a foul / deliberate act at all . And not only it was unintentional , but 2 me it seems as if Marlon would have been KOd by Molinares any other time and it just was extremely bad luck 4 Molinares 2 have that exchange when they had it and Marlon was not effected by d bell and didn't act nor think that d end of d round was close , he was just caught by a punch that could always catch him . They were in d middle of a heated exchange and Molinares' punch simply happened 2 land after d bell , I think he was deprived of a KO win and d title due 2 stupid technicalities . A worse case , Rahman vs Tua #1 remains as a TKO in favor of Tua (I don't recognize it as such) while this 1 was changed (overruled) and I think Molinares legitimately KOd Starling . And also , did Marlon ever comment anything about this fight ? did he claim that he thought d round ended / heard d bell so he let his guard off ? I think he let his guard off (just) because he was busy with punching and left himself totally open regardless of time / bell .
It was Marlon's fault pretty much all the way, although Molinares did land the punch late, the punch was in motion when the bell sounded. Marlon had a habit of dropping his hands at the bell and turning around, and I think he might have been doing that.
They'd already thrown after the bell in round 2. Marlons overconfidence got him in trouble loads of times, goes to show once again that any chin can be cracked. Starlings fault. Molinares suffered anyways, lost his marbles.
It was a fluke.... I have that '88 HBO tape here at the crib....... Starling got caught at the bell......... **** happens in boxing........ Starling is still way better than Molinares ever was...... Starling roared back to ruin Honeyghan in 1989....... MR.BILL
Starling knew the round was about to end and did not expect Molinares to throw a haymaker but he did. It was thrown slightly after the bell so I have no problem with overturning the result.
Regardless, Starling won the Lineal championship in his next fight. A strong-willed fighter who never saw a setback as much of a deal.
The punch was clearly started after the bell already rang. Replay proved it. Starling should have won via DQ or no worse than a technical draw or no contest. Molinares knew it too. Starling was so out cold that he did not even remember it afterwards, and when interviewed by Merchant, he didn't even think he had been knocked out.
